MIDDLEBURY -- Larry Hutvagner, Middlebury's chief financial officer, saved the town close to $2,500 on a new map copier for the Town Clerk's Office by joining a cooperative with the state of Texas.
A salesman for Konica Minolta Business Solutions, which produces the copier, suggested that the town sign the Interlocal Cooperation contract for information resources technologies [--] joining the cooperative for free [--] then benefiting from the lowest bid Texas received on copiers.
Hutvagner said the original estimate he received was around $16,500, but the town was able to buy it for $14,127.
Towns and school districts save money on things like heating oil and gasoline by joining cooperatives, sharing bids and buying in bulk, according to Hutvagner.
"As my budget has cut back on staff and dollars for bidding, it helps to get the best price possible for the town," he said.
