Sunshine Coast-based mailing house Mailezy will now produce colour work in-house instead of subbing it out to offset printers after investing in a Canon ImageRunner.

A large percentage of the mailing house's jobs are runs of less than 10,000. Mailezy, which is a Bulk Mail Partner of Australia Post, used to outsource colour print, such as letterheads, to offset printers and then overprinted the B&W variable data.

The new ImageRunner Advance Pro 9065 prints the letterhead and variable data in one pass, increasing cost efficiency and shortening turnaround times, said Mailezy managing director Nathan Koina.

The Pro 9065 can produce 65 full-colour A4 pages per minute on 300gsm stocks up to 320x450mm.

Koina said he thought the quality of the Canon Advance Pro 9065 was as good, if not better than offset printing.

"This new Canon can rival any offset quality print I've seen from any of these many offset printers we've been exposed to over the years," he said.

Since installing the machine, the company has won new specialised variable-data printing work, which the company was previously unable to print on its existing machine or outsource to offset printers.

"The beauty of this machine is that we can add to it if our needs require. At present, there isn't anything that we wish it had, but it is only new and this may change down the track.

"Once we reach capacity of this machine we will certainly invest again," said Koina.
