MacIntosh OS 10.4

What machine are you trying to sell your mac using customer. I use a mac and can test most os. If you give me the model machine I can test it if we have the machine in Inventory. Are there specific feature you want tested?

I appreciate the help. The customer wants a 1515mf to be put on an OS 10.4. I have tried to explain to this customer that the driver is for a 10.x system, but correct me if I am wrong, but a 10.x driver would work on a 10.4 system? No specific features, but just that the driver will work with that OS. Thanks again.

Are all the users using the macs or just 1 or 2. You do not need PS to use it as a basic printer. Standard config is fine. Feel free to give me a call if you would like and I can explain.

The configuration is one person in a home business that specializes in Aladdin (Jeannie) Lamps. So, if I understand you correctly, this one computer does not need PS to print from Mac OS 10.4? Just a standard print controller?

John,
For basic printing you can use the HP 4L cups driver. Mac OS 10 runs on Darwin which is unix. The cups drivers work great for basic printing. If you need duplexing then you would have to add PS option. The only reason PS is need is because Ricoh does not write a Cups driver for the machines. I have 3 offices I use the 1515MF's in and none have the PS option and I normally print to them using my G4 Power Book and have never had an issue using the cups driver except no duplexing. FYI, 10.x means it supports 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, etc., the "x" stands for any number.

Having said that, you can see a 10.x driver that worked up until 10.3 that doesn't work when 10.4 is released later on.

It does work. with or without PS opiton is the question. Well, that depends on what you mean by work.

Cool. When I said it might not work, I was speaking in general. a 10.x driver THEORETICALLY will work on any version of OSX (Mac OS 10), but some theoretical version of OSX might "break" it.

When a driver says 10.x that's good, but it's better if it says 10.1, .2, .3 and .4 because that usually means it has been verified to work on those specific versions.

Thanks for the information about CUPS, I knew both those pieces of information, but hadn't put 2 and 2 together to the conclusion that it meant our devices would print (without device specific features). Thanks.
