Eighteen months have passed since the Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission launched an investigation aimed at filing a criminal complaint against three consecutive presidents of Toshiba Corp. over the company’s accounting irregularities.
Prosecutors believe it is difficult to pursue the criminal responsibility of the former presidents, but the commission’s investigation has been unusually prolonged. The difference in opinion between the commission and prosecutors remains unbridged.
Since the end of last year, Toshiba has been facing a financial crisis, making it difficult to conduct such investigative activities as interviewing employees. This makes it even more difficult to judge whether it is appropriate to bring charges against the former presidents. read the rest here
