BERG, the London-based firm specializing in “product invention and strategy,” has announced that it is accepting pre-orders for the firm’s “Little Printer,” with shipments in the next 60 days (http://bergcloud.com/download/little-printer-press-release-2012-08-14.pdf). The novel smartphone-teamed printer, with its mini-newspaper content and anthropomorphic appeal caught our attention, along with the attention of much of the social media world, at the end of 2011 with the device’s unveiling and accompanying viral video. The $259 USD price (with $30 additional shipping) comes as a bit of a surprise, compared to, for example, the $199 Google Nexus 7, in a comparison of “consumption devices.” The 2.25-inch (inkless) thermal paper, with three rolls included in the $259 offering, is apparently standard stock – so maybe our industry’s razor-and-blade tradition ends here?
