Lexmark retracts fix for security issue
Lexmark is a division of Ninestar of China
- Announced that the firmware of more than 120 different Lexmark MFP/printer models suffer from a serious security vulnerability as reported by several industry publications
- Hackers are able to hack into the Lexmark device by exploiting the weakness
- Lexmark issued a firmware fix in early July, but withdrew the firmware due to issues, and has yet to publish new firmware to resolve the problem
- “Unfortunately, as some customers experienced problems installing this original firmware, we have removed it from the website. We are currently testing a firmware upgrade that not only addresses the
vulnerability, but also fixes related to a Microsoft patch. We anticipate that the new firmware upgrade will be available by mid-September”
