This should probably go in the canon section but since this section gets the most love I'm going to put it here...

we have really amped up our wide format with canon. We have always been a toner based wide format dealer and never did much with ink but since we are no longer carrying Ricoh things have changed.

i have been thinking about different vertices who can use WF outside the traditional AEC market....church's, car dealers, retail etc. I have even heard of funeral homes using them.

I wanted to see who is placing these machines and in what verticals you are having any form of success with.

Hi Jason,

We have had success in the traditional AEC markets as well as manufacturing and retail ((for showroom floor displays). We also have had success in public k12 markets.

The AEC market is very active these days. I believe the key is to get in front of the dm with your message (we stress the convenience of not having to outsource).

Good Luck!

This is a great topic! I just got back from a wide format training session from Canon. Here are some verticals they recommended:

- Malls (Kiosk promotions and advertising)
- AEC
- Funeral Homes (portraits and casket wraps)
- Wedding photographers (they can sell 24x36 photo's for $150 to $250 and their cost is $4 to $5)
- Any company that wants to focus on corporate communications but can't afford digital signage

The Canon plotters are great, but we've learned to stay away from the MFP's. They're very slow, not user friendly and have a ton of networking issues. Contex and Ricoh seem to be the brands of choice for wide format scanning.

Canon was in my office a week or so ago and the guy mentioned funeral homes. I don't think I'll ever forget the story....apparently, some gang banger was killed and his family and friends wanted to have a big portrait of him at the funeral so they printed it out on an imageprograf.

I'm looking forward to hearing others responses.

Thanks Czech!

Although I consider it part of the AEC community we have put several in the roofing and carpeting companies. We have a few out at photography companies. Also Plumbing, Heating and Air conditioning, Lumber co, American Indian organisations, casinos, Beer distributors are a big one, but they also want high speed.

That's a few off the top of my head.

We have a Canon ipf mfp in a flooring  company. They have a division that does commercial installs, and use the plotter for bid quotes.

We also have a local school systems that has a few ipf's for banner creation. They have 2 different units in 2 different schools.

We have a local ACE hardware that sells building supplies (they have a "lumber yard"), and they also use the device for quoting work and as a service to their clients who need prints.

Our latest new client install is a company that makes Leaded Glass windows. They use the ipf to print templates for building the windows.

The construction business is red hot again (here in GA). Subs need a way to print quickly and cheaply. If you get out and prospect (and get the word out that you offer these devices to existing clients), you will find opportunities.

I don't know if this is a 'social media' sale. We have success stories on our home page (duplicatingsystems.com), but many of our leads come from word of mouth.

Good Luck!
