Kyocera Mita America Calls for Certification of Market Share Data Reported by Companies in Document Imaging Industry

Invites Competitors to Join Kyocera Mita America in Certifying All Reported Data and Applauds Those Few Who Have Embraced This Effort
Fairfield, New Jersey - May 5, 2004 – Kyocera Mita America, one of the world's leading document imaging companies, today called on all the companies in its industry to join with it in committing to certify the truthfulness of the market share data they report publicly.
“Kyocera Mita America invites all of our industry colleagues to stand up and accurately report certified market share data, and stop reporting erroneous and misleading information,” said Michael Pietrunti, senior vice president, marketing and technical services of Kyocera Mita America. “Accurate data is critical for the marketplace as it plays a key role in product purchasing decisions,” continued Pietrunti, “In today’s business environment, with new regulations and demands on organizations to achieve even greater transparency for their key constituencies, we believe the certification of market data is an absolute necessity.”
Kyocera Mita America was the first manufacturer of digital printers and copiers to certify the accuracy and truthfulness of its market share data. For the last five consecutive quarters, all Kyocera Mita America market share data communicated externally to the analyst community and other audiences, including end-users and stakeholders, has been reviewed, approved, signed and notarized by the company’s chief executive officer.
“By submitting credible sales data to analyst organizations, companies will stand behind their findings and endorse the accuracy of the market share that is reported. We are encouraged that a few of our competitors appear to be moving towards certification,” said Pietrunti. “However, not until all reported data is certified will end users and our channel partners be properly served.”
During fiscal year 2004, which ended March 31, 2004, Kyocera Mita America reported certified results that showed significant increases in unit sales of two important product categories: copiers and printers in total. Copier unit sales in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Latin America rose approximately 112 percent from the previous fiscal year. Printer sales in the same geographic areas rose about 149 percent, compared with the previous year.
“Kyocera Mita America is committed to building the best products, solutions, and dealer and reseller support tools,” Pietrunti added. “We are gratified our customers, and their end-users are embracing our brand in ever increasing numbers, and we are proud to certify those numbers for public reporting purposes.”
