Konica Minolta Launches the bizhub PRO 1050 Production Printing System
New 105 ppm Device Provides the Print Speed, Duty Cycle, Finishing Capabilities and Front End Tools Demanded by Production-Level Environments at a Flexible, Affordable Price Point
— GRAPH EXPO and CONVERTING EXPO 2004, October 10 – 13, 2004, Booth #1475 —
RAMSEY, N.J. — October 12, 2004 — Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. (Konica Minolta) today introduced the bizhub PRO™ 1050, a 105 page-per-minute (ppm) printer/copier built from the ground up to meet the production print market’s demand for faster products with expanded functionality at flexible price points. The bizhub PRO 1050 is available in a wide range of product configurations, making it an ideal device for users in production environments ranging from CRDs to quick printing to commercial printing to datacenters.
“This product is testament to the tremendous research and development capabilities of Konica Minolta. The bizhub PRO 1050 is a true production-level device with the durability and capabilities of legacy ‘big iron’ production print machines, yet delivered in a footprint and price point that matches today’s customer’s needs,” said William H. Brewster, Jr., vice president, marketing, Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. “We have established a reputation in the production print market for durability, image quality and innovation with both our monochrome and color products. The introduction of the bizhub PRO 1050 is an important milestone in our efforts to be our clients’ first choice in digital production printing systems by creating sustainable value through both our products and our people.”
More than 150 patent pending items were developed for the bizhub PRO 1050, including innovations in the engine design, paper handling features, finishing capabilities, imaging and the user interface.
Engine and Paper Handling Highlights
Featuring a monthly duty cycle of 1.5 million impressions and a maximum paper capacity of 9,000 sheets, the bizhub PRO 1050’s engine is designed specifically to handle Segment 6 printing demands. A large image area (12.36″ x 18.10″), large maximum paper size (12.75″ x 18.11″) and the ability to handle paper weights ranging from 16-lb. bond to 140-lb. index from any tray (up to 170-lb. index from Tray 4) provide users with the ability to handle any common task that is sent to the device.
In addition, two innovations have been added to help improve paper handling ― a multi-sheet feed detection system is included in all input sources that uses ultrasound technology to reduce errors in the handling of jobs; and air blowers are included in each paper tray to improve the handling of coated paper.
Finishing Options for Maximum Productivity
Among the most customizable options available with the bizhub PRO 1050 are a wide range of finishing features designed to handle a wide range of job types. The FS-503 Finishing Kit offers an eight-position stapler with 100-sheet capacity and a staple cutting function. For more advanced jobs, the FD-501 Folding Unit offers hole punching, a post-sheet cover inserter and six-position folding (booklet; gate; letter fold in; letter fold out; double-parallel; and z-fold). The in-line gate folding offered with this finisher is an industry-first feature. The device also offers a 50-sheet saddle-stitch folder with integrated face trimming to produce booklets of up to 200 pages at rated speed. Finally, two optional 5,000-sheet, pass-through stackers can be configured to work in tandem and offer up to 10,000-sheet output capacity to allow for unattended operation.
Printing and Image Quality
Featuring a print resolution of 600 dpi, enhanced page printing accuracy is achieved through the use of a new generation of Konica Minolta’s patented Simitri® Polymerized Toner which produces more consistent output, improves dot and line reproduction, and delivers better halftone definition and solid fills by maintaining toner particle uniformity.
The newly designed engine features one- and two-sided printing registration accuracy of 0.5mm or less. Low temperature fixing and an improved sensing accuracy also contribute to the bizhub PRO 1050’s ability to deliver consistent high-quality output. With a 160,000-impression toner yield, on-the-fly toner replacement, and a brand new air conveyance system within the toner cartridge, the bizhub PRO 1050 makes it possible to handle the most demanding print jobs without having to constantly monitor the device.
The bizhub PRO 1050 comes standard with an embedded print controller featuring Adobe PS3, Direct PDF, Direct TIFF, PCL6, and IPDS support; up to 600 dpi scan resolution; and Scan-to-SMB, Scan-to-Email, Scan-to-Hard Drive and Scan-to-FTP functionality. An optional image controller is available for graphics-intense environments.
Simplified User Interface
For simplified operation, a large, intuitive operation screen and large LCD display with thumbnail file views were developed for the bizhub PRO 1050. For increased user convenience, the embedded print driver interface was designed with the ability to manage all input and output selections from the main screen. The print driver interface also offers easy access to password print, paper configuration and most advanced document management options from easy-to-navigate tabs. In addition, a graphical representation of the bizhub PRO 1050 has been included in the print driver interface’s main screen to display selected input and output tray locations to users.
PageScope Applications and Utilities
The bizhub PRO 1050 comes standard with three PageScope utilities that are tightly integrated with the device’s engine and are designed for improved document management: PageScope Direct Print, PageScope Job Proofer and PageScope Job Spooler.
PageScope Direct Print allows users to print PDF and TIFF files by simply dragging the file to the bizhub PRO 1050 icon on the user desktop. For simplified access to files that have been scanned and/or archived, PageScope Job Proofer enables users to view and manipulate files stored in the 1050 hard drive. This utility allows users to move around pages in a document and view the file for proofreading. Finally, PageScope Job Spooler provides users with the ability to view active job status in the print queue, change the order of jobs and view jobs stored in the hard drive.
In addition, Konica Minolta’s powerful PageScope family of integrated software applications and utilities are available for the bizhub PRO 1050. These applications include PageScope NetCare for network administration and remote care; PageScope Cabinet Pro for improved document management of scanned documents; and PageScope Router for simplified routing of scanned files. Additional information on the PageScope suite of applications is available at www.pagescope.com/us.
