RAMSEY, NJ, Apr 03, 2013 (Marketwired via COMTEX) -- On March 27, 2013, Konica Minolta was invited to the U.S. General Service Administration Mid-Atlantic Regional Office Headquarters in Philadelphia to share sustainability best practices with industry partners during a roundtable discussion.

Konica Minolta emphasized its long-term environmental vision, "Eco Vision 2050," with the goals of reducing product CO2 emissions by 80 percent by the year 2050. Other goals include: promoting recycling and effective use of Earth's limited natural resources; and working to promote the restoration and preservation of biodiversity. Konica Minolta aims to meet these goals by maximizing efficiency and minimizing environmental impact not only in Konica Minolta's offices, but also in the offices of customers.

Konica Minolta has undertaken the following environmental sustainability initiatives:

The Promotion of Green Procurement initiative rates the environmental impact that each Konica Minolta supplier has across all aspects of the
business including: environmental certification, use of prohibited substances and content of controlled substances that could affect the environment. Additionally, every Konica Minolta bizhub® MFP developed since 1995 has qualified for the Energy Star printer label.

The Clean Planet Program in the U.S. was implemented to reduce the environmental impact of products throughout their lifecycle. The Clean Planet Program is the industry's first cost-free plan for recycling consumables for all products including: toner cartridges, developers, imaging units, developer units waste toner bottles and drums.

Project Sunway is a 967,000 kWh solar energy system developed in partnership with Nautilus Solar Energy that is currently under construction at Konica Minolta's Ramsey, N.J., headquarters. Comprised of carport canopies supporting approximately 3,498, 240 Watt solar
panels, Project Sunway's solar energy will be enough to power 84 homes or remove the greenhouse gas emissions produced by 132 passenger vehicles, based on standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Other waste prevention initiatives include:
-- Environmentally friendly toner technology -- Konica Minolta's
Simitri HD toner uses smaller, more uniformed particles, allowing
bizhub MFPs to reduce their toner intake by 30 percent. This process
realizes resource conservation by reducing the normally five to ten
percent of wasted toner to zero.
-- Induction heating fixing technology -- This process reduces power
consumption on all Konica Minolta MFPs, resulting in a shorter warm-
up time. This feature automatically cuts off residual fixing heat when no print jobs are taking place, further contributing to energy savings.

"We are honored to have been invited to share our best practices and discuss our ongoing commitment to environmental preservation and sustainability," says Kevin Kern, senior vice president, Marketing, Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. "Konica Minolta aims to conduct all of our corporate activities in harmony with society and the environment.
