Konica Minolta Business Solutions Introduces Its Next-Generation Fax Systems

The FAX2900 and 3900 Deliver Faster Fax/Copy/Print Speeds and Color Scanning Capabilities

RAMSEY, N.J. December 1, 2004 Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. (Konica Minolta) today introduced its latest fax-based multifunctional devices -- the Konica Minolta FAX2900 and 3900. Designed for speed, cost-efficiency and productivity, the 2900 and 3900 feature 16 page-per-minute (ppm) laser engines developed for environments that require low-to-mid and mid-to-high range capabilities such as small to mid-size businesses as well as workgroups within larger businesses.

Replacing the Minolta FAX 1600e, 2800, 3800 and the Konica 9765, 9880 and 9980, the FAX2900 and 3900 offer users the option to acquire dedicated fax products at an affordable price. Furthermore, the FAX2900 and 3900 are fax-based MFPs that offer robust and diverse multifunctional capabilities, allowing users to also meet copy, print and scan needs.

Standard features for the FAX2900 and 3900 include a USB1.1 interface, operating system compatibility with Windows 98, ME, 2000 and XP, and 16MB standard memory -- allowing for storage of up to 350 fax pages. The 3900 is upgradeable to 48MB, which is equivalent to 1,024 fax pages. Fax transmissions take as little as 3 seconds per page with the Super G3 Fax 33.6Kbps modem, and scanning takes only 2.5 seconds. Standard GDI printing allows for 16ppm and up to 600 dpi for high-resolution quality that makes text more legible, and fine details and hand notations more crisp and clear.

As a copier, each of these systems deliver output of up to 99 copies, with sorting capability, and a zoom ratio of 50 percent to 200 percent in 1 percent increments. 2-in-1 copying is available with the 3900. Added features that yield high-quality output include: Micro-toning for superior image quality, Text Mode for more legible text, and Photo Mode, which allows for smooth halftone reproduction.

Additional fax functions include: 100 Auto Dialing locations for the 2900 (200 for the 3900), 32 One-Touch Dialing locations for the 2900 (64 for the 3900) and 142 Broadcast locations for the 2900 (274 for the 3900). Both offer F-Code support and Timer Transmission. Advanced paper handling features for these devices include: a 50-sheet Automatic Document Feeder, 200-sheet output tray, 250-sheet paper cassette, and an optional 500-sheet second paper cassette unit. The 2900 and 3900 also offer Auto Tray Switching capabilities.

Both models provide standard TWAIN scanning in black & white and color at 150 dpi x 150 dpi or 300 x 300 dpi, and 600 x 600 dpi in black & white scanning only. TWAIN technology allows scanning directly to a PC, and when color scanning, users can scan colored text documents or documents that contain photos or illustrations and retain the integrity of the original.

In addition, the FAX3900 offers standard network scanning/Internet faxing for simple conversion of paper documents to electronic files for archiving and distribution. Scan-to-Email and Scan-to-FTP technologies let users store, share, edit and distribute scanned data in TIFF or PDF format. Internet faxing allows fax transmissions over the Internet instead of traditional telephone lines, thereby eliminating phone costs. With the optional PageScope Cabinet Pro document management application, 3900 users can also easily organize scanned paper documents and electronic files providing workgroups and small businesses with a simple way to save, manage and find electronic files and images. PageScope Cabinet Pro enables hard copy documents to be scanned directly to a users PC for organizing, filing, performing OCR, enhancing image quality, converting file formats, combining images and electronic files into a PDF, and outputting.

"These models were designed to meet the needs of both customers that still require fax as a primary function, and those that are not quite ready to make the transition to a printer/copier-based MFP," said Kevin P. Kern, vice president, product planning and development, Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. "The 2900 and 3900 provide a host of substantial upgrades in functionality and productivity at competitive pricing. The many new features, including color scanning and ultra-fast transmission at 3 seconds per page, demonstrate our efforts to take our faxing technology, like all of our technologies, to the next level of excellence."
