Konica Minolta Announces New Security Kit For The Bizhub Di3510 Series Of Multifunctional Devices
Konica Minolta bizhub Di3510 Series Products Meet the Independent, International Standard Test Criteria for IT Security with New Security Kit
RAMSEY, N.J. January 31, 2005 Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A, Inc. (Konica Minolta) today announced the availability of a new Security Kit for the bizhub Di3510 series of multifunctional devices -- the bizhub Di3510, bizhub Di3010, bizhub Di2510, bizhub Di2010, as well as the fax version of each product.
The Security Kit provides companies with a set of tools to help protect data that is temporarily stored in the device's memory or hard drive. A series of password-protected functions provide users with strict authorization policies for access to pending and stored jobs, as well as user mailboxes. System administrator access is also password protected, eliminating the risk of unauthorized tampering with user passwords. For added security, each password-protected function is designed to lock a user out if a password is entered incorrectly three times. Once locked out, a user or administrator can only be granted access by a designated individual with clearance to reassign passwords.
With the optional Security Kit, the products have been successfully evaluated by an independent testing facility under the International Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation (ISO 15408), or "Common Criteria" as it is commonly referred.
"More and more companies are connecting all of their multifunctional devices to their IT network in order to accelerate information flow, allow for remote monitoring, and create a work style that is unrestricted. Due to this open flow of information, it is vital for the data to be protected," said Kevin P. Kern, vice president, product planning and development, Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. "This Security Kit offers customers a rich set of functions designed to eliminate unauthorized access to, or tampering with, data. Furthermore, to assure a secure environment for document distribution, we strongly recommend that companies enforce strict user policies and provide training to all users in order to promote best security practices."
International Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation (ISO 15408)
Developed by the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP), the Common Criteria presents a standardized model for product evaluation and specifies seven Evaluated Assurance Levels (EAL) against which products' functions are tested and evaluated. The bizhub 3510 series was certified at EAL Level 3, which is the recognized industry standard for multifunctional devices.
bizhub Di3510 Series ISO 15408 certified security features include:
- Hard Drive Removal Specialized screws secure the device's hard drive to the engine and prevent removal without the use of a special tool.
- System
Administrator Access To prevent unauthorized access to the device's administrative mode, the Access Lock feature disables administrative mode if a password is entered incorrectly three times. This feature can be enabled on both the administrative mode of the engine as well as in the PageScope Web Connection network utility.
- Mailbox Authentication Users access their mailbox by using a four or more-digit password (alphanumeric and/or symbols). Only the administrator has the ability to change the password of the mailbox if a user forgets his/her password. In addition, the administrator has permission to change the name of the mailbox.
- Lock Job Function General users of the device can lock a print job by using a four-digit numeric password at their desktop and unlock the job from the MFP's control panel.
- Technical Representative Mode Access to the technical representative mode of the device is restricted by means of an eight-digit numeric password. A series of unique eight-digit passwords are required to access initial mode, maintenance mode, and to change the service password.
