Konica Announces ePware 2.0, Providing Simple Document Management For Crd/Print Shop Environments
Software Upgrades Include Networked Document Sharing, Combined Input Functionality, Unique Page Numbering, and Multiple-License Pricing Packages
WINDSOR, Conn. – July 21, 2003 – Konica Business Technologies U.S.A., Inc. (Konica), the innovation leader in digital imaging solutions and a subsidiary of Konica Corporation, today announced the availability of Konica ePware 2.0 Document Management Software. Designed for central reprographic department (CRD) and print shop environments, ePware is a pre-press document management software package that merges multiple files into a single document by converting the documents and images into Adobe® Acrobat™ PDF files — all while retaining the native file format.
ePware version 2.0 includes the following new features: increased network capability, allowing multiple users to share "cabinets" on the LAN; unique page numbering for ePware-created documents; the ability to email documents directly from ePware; access to ePware files using only Acrobat Reader™, eliminating the costs of a full version of Adobe Acrobat; and a "Cooperation Input Folder", or "hot folder", that enables users to have ePware automatically monitor pre-determined scanner folders, convert documents to PDF files, and insert, or "register", them into the ePware application for future use.
The widespread usage of design programs such as Quark®, Photoshop®, and Adobe Illustrator has necessitated the ability to combine dissimilar file types into an easy-to-view single document format for proofing and editing. ePware can convert these files, as well as scanned documents from any TWAIN-compatible scanners or scanning-enabled Konica device, providing the ability for customers to view these documents in PDF format.
Once converted, users can manipulate the multiple files in a "drag and drop" interface to create a single document. They can then use editing functions such as dividing, rotating, copying, deleting and binding in file or page units for document customization. ePware 2.0 also features custom cabinets that can display documents in either "Thumbnail" view, Card view, or List view, and OCR functionality, providing an easy way to locate files stored in ePware.
"There is simply no competitive product available that can match ePware in price, functionality and ease-of-use," said William H. Brewster Jr., vice president, marketing, Konica Business Technologies U.S.A., Inc. "Konica is dedicated to developing and marketing products that meet the growing needs of our customer base and has responded to the demands for simple management of multiple file formats with the enhancements in ePware 2.0. Once again, Konica is establishing itself as the single stop for our customers' digital imaging needs, from pre-press to finished documents."
Ideal for CRDs, print shops and enterprise or large workgroup environments, where multiple users may be working on a single project, ePware 2.0 can now be purchased in multiple user license packages of 10, 25, 50 or 100 licenses — offering up to a sixty percent savings in license costs.
Pricing and Availability
ePware 2.0 is available for purchase as a single license or in multiple-user license packages. Konica's suggested retail price for a single license of ePware is $149. Multiple licenses range from $1,189 to $5,949 for 10 to 100 users. The product is available through Konica's North American direct sales, authorized dealer and value-added reseller channels.
