KODAK NEXPRESS Personalizes Canadian Printer Covers
Kodak Creates a Personal Experience for Magazine Readers with Variable Data Solution.
ROCHESTER, NY, Jan. 9, 2008 — With plenty of competition in the magazine industry, capturing a reader’s attention requires creative and powerful tools. Canadian Printer worked with Kodak to produce more than 12,000 personalized covers for its December issue.
Prescriptions for Personalization
The high quality, glossy custom Canadian Printer covers were printed on a KODAK NEXPRESS 2100 Digital Production Color Press with variable data managed by KODAK DARWIN Pro Software. Using subscriber information about each subscriber’s specific industry, company size, job title and geographic area, the cover art features customized messages on the labels of pill bottles and on a prescription pad.
“Our specialized cover demonstrates how the power of personalization can break through media clutter to reach our readers,” said Susan Ritcey, Publisher, Canadian Printer magazine. “With more than 2,000 other publications in circulation throughout Canada alone, our ability to connect with individual readers becomes a considerable advantage for retaining subscribers, recruiting advertisers, and demonstrating leadership among competing industry publications.”
Magazine publishers, brand owners and marketers continue to seek new ways to utilize variable data printing (VDP) to personalize content and enhance customer experience and response.
Connecting with Readers
“With VDP, the printed page becomes a dynamic canvas to creatively connect with readers, through specific text, graphics and colors,” said Mace Hoover, Kodak Regional Sales Manager for Canada. “KODAK solutions can help companies maximize their valuable investment in customer data to develop personalized communications that get results.”
Parker Pad and Printing, using a KODAK NEXPRESS 2100 Digital Production Color Press with a fifth color station, facilitated the final production of Canadian Printer’s VDP cover project.
“The KODAK NEXPRESS 2100 Digital Production Color Press allows us to meet the demands of a VDP project, from the integration of specific variable details to production at high quality images,” said Janis Parker, owner Parker Pad and Printing. “Using the NEXPRESS platform helped streamline the production of more than 12,000 glossy personalized full color covers in just four days.”
Personalized URLs
The latest issue of Canadian Printer also features an ad linking printed content to a personalized URL (PURL). The cross media ad was created using DARWIN Pro Software and LookWho’sClicking® Software from MindFireIncSM.
The KODAK NEXPRESS 2100 Digital Production Color Presses meet a variety of needs up to very high volume environments. Customers are able to upgrade presses as they grow their businesses with options to select desired paper capacity, increase processing capability, and add a fifth imaging unit for delivery of spot color, watermarking and protective coating with the GATF InterTech Award-winning KODAK NEXPRESS Fifth Imaging Unit Solutions. The fifth imaging unit solutions also enable high impact glossing in conjunction with the KODAK NEXGLOSSER Glossing Unit. The booklet maker for KODAK NEXPRESS Digital Production Color Presses is available in-line or off-line for collating, stitching, folding, trimming, and creating standard or square-back booklets of up to 100 pages.
KODAK DARWIN Pro Software converts documents created in one of many popular design platforms into variable information documents in which all elements—text, graphics, photos, colors, layout, charts, backgrounds and even entire pages—can be dynamic. DARWIN Pro Software enables creation of complex print campaigns with many changes in variable elements without the need for scripting or programming, working with very large databases of recipients. It also supports cross media programs by enabling creation of Personalized URLs for email.
