At the IRgA in Orlando FL, KIP previewed a prototype Color system called the "Color 80" which will print six "D" size prints per minute on bond paper. The unit can be paired with any of KIP's color scanners to end up with a multifunction machine. Estimates of the lead time before the "Color 80" is a product ready to ship run from nine to eighteen months. Cost estimates run from $120,000 to $175,000. The impact of this machine will be interesting because there have been rumbles for years that Oce' had a "color 9800" that they were keeping under lock and key and there are rumors out of the Ricoh camp about a four "D" a minute machine that does color and sells in the $60,000 range.
