IKON Office Solutions has been selected to implement a managed print services (MPS) plan on campus that will reduce costs, increase productivity and enhance sustainability efforts for Clemson.
IKON was selected through a competitive procurement process because of its proven success with MPS for other clients and a specific plan to implement a solution for Clemson. MPS involves the management of devices such as printers, copiers and fax machines in a unified fashion.
Over the next 60 days, a team of IKON business analysts will spend time on campus evaluating Clemson’s print and document needs. The team will be interviewing users in offices across campus to better understand how documents are received, printed, stored and accessed. The team will also identify each printer, copier and fax machine on campus and will need to access serial numbers and ages of devices. Taking this inventory is important so that IKON can support these devices in the future with printer cartridges and other supplies.
After the analysis, IKON will create a five-year plan that will outline cost savings; reduction of energy and paper use on campus; digitization of documents; and a heightened level of support services for printers, copiers and fax machines.
The MPS implementation is phase two of a plan recommended by the Budget Task Force on Information Technology and approved by Administrative Council to make university printing more efficient, sustainable and cost-effective. The first phase was the implementation of the PawPrints print quota policy, which began in August 2010.
“MPS is an important initiative for Clemson as we continue to examine and improve our administrative functions across the university,” said Chief Financial Officer Brett Dalton. “I look for all areas to support this next phase of data gathering so we can make informed decisions as we mold what exactly MPS will look like here at Clemson.”
“We are excited to partner with IKON on this project,” said Mike Nebesky, director of procurement. “Through the early phases of the transition of the postal service operation to IKON, they have proven themselves to be a professional and driven organization willing to align themselves with the university goals and culture. I see MPS as a great opportunity to maximize the strengths of the IKON organization in conjunction with the work they are already doing in the postal area.”
