Hewlett Packard’s Universal Print Driver (UPD) is a unique single driver that supports nearly all HP printers for PCL5 as well as emulated PostScript 2 and 3. What makes this technology so impressive is how much time it could save IT departments in enterprise environments with respect to support. Instead of supporting individual drivers for each device, IT administrators will no doubt love the fact that there is a single self-updating driver common to all HP devices across the network. IT will also enjoy the reduced workload as the UPD will automatically recognize upgrades to devices such as added finishers and paper sources without the need to update drivers on each individual workstation on the network as is the case for most competitive devices.
