HP extends Bug Bounty program
offering up to $10,000 cash to hackers who discover security vulnerabilities
- unknown how many bounties HP has already paid out
- will now also pay the bounty for vulnerabilities found in its printer/MFP cartridges (supply chain, cartridge chips, cartridge packaging, firmware and hardware)
“Bad actors aiming to exploit printers with sophisticated malware pose an ever- present and growing threat”; stated Shivaun Albright, HP Chief Technologist for Print Security
- “there has been a rise in attacks of embedded system technologies, which are often shared across connected devices and include PC firmware/BIOS as well as printer firmware”
