Ricoh confirms commitment to 'zero waste to landfill'
Ricoh Australia has strengthened its commitment to its ‘zero waste to landfill’ environment strategy through a Green Partnership with Griffith University. The Green Partnership scheme aims to establish long-term connections between Ricoh and its local partners, suppliers and customers that will benefit the environment.
Ricoh Australia has been involved with Griffith University since the provision of four 105ppm high speed production machines in 2002 and has now won the contract to supply multifunction devices across all campuses. In addition to product quality, performance and Ricoh’s flexible service offerings, one of the key reasons Ricoh was successful in the tender for Griffith University was the inherent environmental benefit the products provided.
Griffith University joined the Ricoh toner cartridge recycling program, which recycles toner bottles, cartridges, drums, fuser’s and toner. Since the implementation of the program, Griffith Uni Print has diverted 1177kg of waste from landfill…a fantastic achievement.
Uni Print Business Manager Robert Jack said he expected the waste diverted from landfill figure to “escalate significantly” over the next five years because of the new contract for the multifunction devices.
“Griffith plans to extend the cartridge program from Uni Print to all campuses and all sections of the University” Jack commented.
The Green Partnership was recognised recently in a ceremony at Griffith University where the University was presented with two park benches, made from the recycled toner bottles.
Ricoh Australia Queensland Branch Manager, Andrew Hopper said, “Ricoh actively supports the total lifecycle management of its office automation products. Our Ricoh multifunction devices are designed to reduce paper and energy consumption. This offers a better environmental option and secures high cost savings”.
“And to close the loop, Ricoh Australia with its green partners is also reaping the environmental benefits by preventing landfill through our recycling initiatives.”
The Ricoh 2004 Sustainability Report will be released on November 30. It will be available on the Ricoh website or contact the Environment Office on 1800 803 120.
