I am currently working on an order for a 240W...... my competition is the KIP 3000. Local dealer has told the customer that the KIP units are on backorder .. 3-6 months. If this is true, push hard, and get those deals. This box is very tough to beat straight up. Just thought I'd let everyone know.

Art,
The info came directly from the mouth of the owner of the engineering group. They are a current copier customer of the dealer who told them this. I actually think that if this unit was available, I would have lost already. This box is VERY tough to beat. That is about all I can tell you. I am supposed to hear from the owner today or Monday in regards to an order. Good Luck.
Here are some more points to hammer home;

FPOT 24 seconds

warmup 5 minutes

Rear exit only, looks the same as the 240W, if thats the case the customer will have continous misfeed problems with long paper

No preview of scans

No editing of scans

Spindle load for paper, KIP outlines 15 steps to replace the paper roll! (ouch), Plus you must have a flat surface available to replace the roll, well that means an empty table or the floor (ouch)

Toner replacement, 10 steps to repalce the toner! Plus the cartridges are 1/2 the size of the Ricoh ( I am double checking this )

No Paper Tray

Before using the by-pass you must first configure the paper size (ouch)

No clamshell access for misfeeds, bad jams may need a tech on-site (ouch)

No program modes, I have found that msot companies will pre-program reductions and enlargements and other time saving steps with the Ricohs. After reading the OP manual, I did not see any program modes for the KIP.

Space (WxDxH) 49x24x44, unit is wider than the 240W, plus with only having rear access the system must be spaced further away from the wall than the 240W. Most of my customers use the top exit tray

Hi All,

Selling the KIP and Ricoh products just want to make sure to correct the record on a couple of things.

First, the KIP 3000 does have a preview of the scanning. The preview will be shown right on the touch panel.

Second, it is true the bypass must be set up for use. This is a one time task usually done by the technician at the time of installation. After that the user only need select manual feed and then indicate paper size.

Lastly, the KIP 3000 does have a clamshell design.

I know not having everyday hands on can lead to misinformation. That is not a bad thing. I often think of it like the trial laweyer who makes a comment for the Jusry to hear, only to withdraw it upon opposing coucil's objection. The Jury already heard it. Let the opposing council correct the record.

Good Selling,
JR:

I was reading through the operators manual for the KIP and I did not see or the manual was not clear about the clamshell design, nor the pre-scan.

However having to set the paper size everytime you use the by-pass can be a real drag.

Thanx for correcting my mistakes, that's why we're all here!~

Saw my first KIP today. I must say the only thing I saw that was sexy was the screen.

It's very boxy, no top exit for copies and the orginal exit feed guide seems that it will only hold one documment at a time. Seems like a real drag if the user had to scan multiple drawings. I can see the originals getting misfeed or curling under each other. There is no place for the originals to stack like the 240.

Something else that caught my eye, is that every time you open the paper draw, you have to tell the system what size rolls are in the drawers. I know its minor however it seems like an inconvience to the customer.

I asked the new owner to show me how toner was loaded. He could not find out how to open the system.

The rear misfeed is a disadvantage and I can see major jamming issues if the machine is allowed to print multiple sheets with no one around.

What I did like was the color 9" LCD Display, it even had the op manual loaded on the display for viewing.

Good info, thanks. I am in a competitive situation with the KIP but have been told I am getting the deal. Customer does like the fact that the KIP bypass can be folded up and out of the way - he said it looks "real clean and neat" and that's what engineers like. However, he likes our software much better than KIP. I always play up Plotbase's ability to reprint from history and most prospects like that ability. Can't do that with an embedded controller - for more than a few jobs anyway. In addition, as we know, you can easily and affordably upgrade an external controller versus trying to upgrade an embedded controller. Often the cost or hassle to do that on an embedded controlloer is not worth it - that's if it's even an option. I had a prospect bring in an Autocad file (10MB) and print to my 240W in the demo room. It converted the image quickly and out came the print. He currently has an old OCE 9400 with the original embedded controller and it's horribly slow. Printing to his 9400, it takes 15 MINUTES to print the same file. Obviously, it he were to upgrade to a new system with an embedded controller, he would see about the same speed as the Ricoh. But again, over time, he would see the same degradation as before. I tell "his story" on every sales call I go on. It's pretty powerful!
I was just doing some research on the new Xerox, and I read that the image is scanned to a mailbox. Wham! It hit me, I visting the client who bought the KIP 3000 and not the 240W. He called ME for the TRIX software (I made a few bucks), his major complaint is that the KIP scans to a mailbox. He scans at the KIP, for multi pages and then he has to go to his desktop to retirve the images from the KIP mailbox. Here's his complaint, all of the images are labled as a temp file with random numbers. He must them import and open each document and then rename those documents. His comment was "a big waste of my time".

This brings me to another point can the KIP 3000 do a batch scan, meaning scan the documents and have them saved as one document and one file name?

Please make sure you point out the temp file and having to retrieve the images from the KIPS mailbox when competing against this unit!
