Fuji Xerox Australia is aiming a new line-up of DocuColor machines at the middle ground between users of its entry-level Xerox 700 and its high-volume iGen range of production digital presses.

The DocuColor 7002 and 8002 (pictured) - the sixth iteration of the series - both utilise a 'low gloss' toner and an inline spectrophotometer, not seen in previous generations.

The spectrophotometer, combined with the Automated Colour Quality Suite (ACQS), offers auto-calibration, spot-colour matching, and advanced colour profiling, much like the iGen4.

Henryk Kraszewski, Fuji Xerox Australia's production colour marketing manager, told ProPrint that the new presses are targeted at users who may have "outgrown" their Xerox 700 digital press, but don't need the multimillion-page production capacity of an iGen.

Kraszewski said the DocuColor competed with Canon's ImagePress series, adding that few vendors offered a press aimed at the middle tier of the digital market.

"The offset-like look and feel of the output - combined with the colour accuracy, consistency and repeatability - will be of immediate appeal to commercial printers," said Kraszewski.

"For the franchise and quick-printers, the presses enable better competition against offset while its proven, robust and reliable platform will enable an easy transition to full-colour direct mail and transpromo applications in the bureau environment."

The 7002 and 8002 print at 70 and 80 pages per minute, respectively, and can produce two-sided prints at rated speed on all weights and sizes up to 300gsm.
