Available in both receipt and label versions, the new Mobilink devices allow retail and hospitality customers to take advantage of wireless printing from all handheld iDevice peripherals, including Apple's (News - Alert) iPad®, iPod touch® and iPhone®, connecting via the Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR wireless networking standard. Bluetooth's open standard wireless communications protocol creates a stable, reliable connection and is a cost effective option for short-range transactions of up to 30 feet. Epson has simplified the process required to secure Apple's approval for iOS Bluetooth applications. Epson's software development kits (SDK) are designed to shorten the development time required to implement mobile POS applications, enabling support for wireless POS printing from handheld peripherals. Mobilnk also supports Google's Android™ mobile technology platform and Windows operating systems, with connectivity options such as Wi-Fi 802.11 and Bluetooth.
According to the IHL Group, mobile POS technology is a $5.5 billion business worldwide, and the single fastest-moving trend in retail since Internet access was added to stores.
