New York – Epson introduced Tuesday new lines of home and professional inkjet printers designed to meet the PrecisionCore performance objectives heralded by global president, Minoru Usui last fall.
In retail models, Epson is taking the new chip technology to its Work Force, Work Force Wide Format and Work Force Pro printer lines, all slated to start arriving this month.
PrecisionCore is a new IC technology combining breakthroughs in piezo material and high-precision micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) manufacturing to create an innovative new print chip, according to the company.
Epson said the PrecisionCore chip delivers commercial-grade performance in a compact, modular form that enables scaling the technology from single-pass industrial presses to workgroup and desktop printers.
The same chip can be utilized for photography, industrial, commercial and now general business printing.
“Industrial grade technology brought to the desktop is part of the grand design of PrecisionCore,” said Nils Madden, Epson America desktop imaging and printing marketing director.
The bottom line, he explained, is that purchasers of Epson inkjet equipment, from high-tech commercial photo and industrial fabric printers, to desktop business printers get the same precision print chips, offering “dramatically improved speeds” and quality that beats both laser and thermal inkjet methods.
Among the key performance breakthroughs with PrecisionCore are multiple drop sizes per nozzle and fundamentally faster firing frequency.
In addition, the technology allows scalability with two- and four-chip approaches, enabling speed improvements from 10 pages per minute (ppm) up to 20 ppm (in the case of four-chip designs).
Epson’s new Work Force models distributed through leading retailers, include the basic Work Force line with models WF-3620 ($169 suggested retail) and the WF-3640 ($199).
Both units offer print-shop quality documents and graphics; up to 40 percent ink cost savings compared to laser; wireless and Wi-Fi Direct (for iPads, iPhones, tablets and smartphones) connectivity; fast printing of up to 19 ISO ppm (black) and 10 ISO ppm (color); 250-sheet paper capacity, plus rear tray for specialty paper including envelopes, labels and card stock; auto two-sided print, copy, scan and fax, with 35-page two-sided automatic document feeder; easily navigable 2.7-inch color touchscreen; durable print quality; and laser-sharp black and crisp color text with clean lines, even on plain paper, Epson said.
The Epson WorkForce wide-format printer series is billed as “the ideal solution for small offices, designers, creative professionals, architects, and engineers,” offering rapid auto two-sided printing of landscape documents and paper sizes up to 11 by 17 inches.
The series offers three models including the WF-7110 ($199), WF-7610 ($249) and the WF-7620 ($299).
All feature print-shop quality printing; up to 40 percent ink cost savings; wireless and Wi-Fi Direct connectivity; fast, wide-format printing of up to 18 ISO ppm (black), 10 ISO ppm (color); up to 500-sheet paper capacity using two 250-sheet front trays, and a rear tray for specialty paper; auto two-sided printing of up to 11- by 17-inch paper; wide-format, photo-quality prints (borderless, up to 13 by 19 inches); 2.2-inch LCD screen control; laser-sharp black and color text, and durable prints using DURABrite Ultra Inks.
The WF-7610 is a more compact version offering a single 250-sheet paper tray, plus rear tray; auto two-sided print, copy, scanning; large scans of up to 11 by 17 inches with two-sided automatic document feeder, and a 4.3-inch color touchscreen.
The WF-7620 steps up from there with the addition of 500-sheet paper capacity, plus rear tray; auto two-sided print, copy, scan and fax of documents up to 11 by 17 inches with 35-page automatic document feeder.
The WorkForce Pro series printers were designed to provide high speed performance to business workgroups, delivering “print-shop quality color prints, laser-sharp black and color text, and half the printing cost of color laser,” Epson said.
Models WF-4630 ($299 suggested retail) and WF-4640 ($399), are both said to offer print-shop quality of high-resolution documents and graphics; ink cost savings of up to 50 percent over color laser; wireless and Wi-Fi Direct (for iPad, iPhones, tablets and smartphones) connectivity; print speeds of up to 20 ISO ppm (black) and 20 ISO ppm (color); versatile paper handling with 330-sheet capacity, and an 80-sheet rear tray plus auto two-sided print, copy, scan and fax; easy navigation and control from a 3.5-inch color touchscreen; and an average 30,000-page monthly duty cycle for high-volume printing.
Prints are said to be “extremely durable,” resisting smudges, fading and water and both blacks and colors are said to be “laser-sharp” and crisp, even on plain paper.
The WF-4640 adds 580-sheet paper capacity, with an 80-sheet rear tray and an intuitive 4.3-inch color touchscreen.
