Toshiba Enhances e-STUDIOTM Capabilities by Joining the eCopy Ready Program

Customers Now Can Scan Documents Directly to More Than 20 Enterprise Software Applications

Miami, Fla., eCopy Paper Connection Forum, April 5, 2005— Toshiba America Business Solutions, Inc. (TABS) and eCopy, Inc., announced today that TABS has joined the eCopy Ready Manufacturers Program. By joining the program, TABS provides its e-STUDIOTM digital copier users with the option to use eCopy’s Open Platform software, which integrates with over 20 enterprise software applications, including EMC Documentum Enterprise Content Management Platform, Captaris RightFax, and Microsoft Outlook.

eCopy software transforms TABS’ e-STUDIO digital copiers into comprehensive paper management solutions. In addition to copying, printing, scanning and faxing, e-STUDIO users can now easily scan documents directly to their enterprise content management (ECM), Fax server, or e-mail system for more efficient business processes and improved document security.

“The eCopy Ready Program expands our market opportunities by enabling e-STUDIO systems to serve as a paper on-ramp to the long list of enterprise applications integrated with eCopy,” said Rick Taylor, senior vice president of Sales, Marketing and Business Operations of TABS. “It leverages our customers’ business applications by including paper-based information in the workflow and strengthens our position as a valuable partner in managing their complete document lifecycle.”

eCopy’s application connectors provide native integration and operate as clients of the enterprise application server. In this way, the connectors provide the same look and feel at the copier as the applications operating on the desktop, which reduces training and improves ease-of-use. It also extends authentication and user rights to protect against unauthorized users and provides a comprehensive audit trail, which is a critical requirement for organizations that use enterprise applications to manage Sarbanes-Oxley compliance information or other sensitive information.

“The digital copier is expanding beyond its traditional uses and is becoming a means for transforming paper-based information into electronic documents,” said Edward Schmid, president and CEO of eCopy. “Our software makes it much easier for Toshiba customers to bring paper-based information into their information lifecycle management systems and leverage the infrastructure investments they’ve made to better collaborate, speed workflow, and protect information.”

TABS is demonstrating eCopy ScanStation OP v3.0 with a Toshiba e-STUDIO4511 multifunction system at the eCopy Paper Connection Forum, April 5 – 8, a global summit for ISVs, digital copier and scanner manufacturers, dealers, VARs and system integrators being held in Miami, Fla. For more information on this conference, please see http://www.ecopy.com/paperconnection/. As a member of the program, Toshiba can include the eCopy Ready label on its e-STUDIO digital copiers, which signals to customers that the devices are compatible with eCopy software with its robust scanning services and large number of enterprise applications.

The eCopy Ready Manufacturers Program is one of four components in the eCopy Paper Connection initiative, which seeks to expand the use of document scanning to millions of office workers. The other three components include the eCopy Open Platform Architecture, eCopy Connections Alliance Program, and the eCopy Solution Provider Network.
