Ricoh Introduces Document Capture and Management Solution
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 6, 2002--
GlobalScan Offers Optimum Efficiency and Flexibility for the Capturing,
Distribution and Retrieval of Critical Business Information
Ricoh Corporation, the Dependable Digital(TM) output company, today
introduced its latest document capture and management solution, GlobalScan
at AIIM 2002 from March 6-8, at booth #1905 in the Moscone Convention
Center, San Francisco, CA.
This new technology, ideal for major corporations, government agencies and
service providers, performs as a digital document warehouse that accepts
scanned documents and creates, delivers and stores digital files for
electronic transmission over a network.
Complete access to GlobalScan's document capture and distribution features
can be done directly from a Ricoh Aficio MFP operation panel, providing
scanning, copying, printing, and faxing operations all in one footprint. By
combining these features in one MFP, organizations can reduce the high cost
of multiple desktop scanners and improve office efficiency in document
capture and distribution.
According to a recent Morgan Stanley CIO survey, CIOs will remain cautious
about IT spending in 2002. The percentage of CIOs indicating that the
slowing economy has caused them to re-evaluate their IT budgets within the
last month increased in November to 67% from 52% in October. To address
these budget restraints, Ricoh will continue to develop products that
provide affordable solutions to expand document management through the
integration of existing technologies.
Ricoh's GlobalScan server uses LDAP, a protocol directory service that runs
over TCP/IP, which can access unlimited addresses from an organization's
global address book directly from the MFP operation panel. In addition, the
Ad Hoc email address entry feature allows for the entry of any valid
Internet email address from the front panel, which is then sent as SMTP
file, transmitted with the scanned documents though the GlobalScan server
and immediately delivered to the appropriate party.
"Our solutions give customers the most applicable and affordable tools
necessary to enable them to work faster and smarter," said Jim Ivy,
President, Office Products Group, Ricoh Corporation. "By combining the
industries' most comprehensive hardware and software products, such as a
Ricoh Aficio MFP and GlobalScan, customers are provided with the
individualized solutions they need to succeed and edge out their
competition."
Through strategic partnerships with industry leaders such as Adobe, Kofax,
Doculex, Captaris and Equitrac, Ricoh's GlobalScan server will provide
flexibility to large organizations already utilizing industry proven
document management systems.
"This is a one stop solution for the workplace and Doculex is able to be
the conveyer belt within Ricoh's GlobalScan process," said David Bailey,
VP, Sales and Technical Development, DocuLex. "We monitor and further
understand the information and provide enhanced capabilities for indexing
and archiving a company's critical data."
GlobalScan is available at the suggested retail price of $14,995 and will
be demonstrated at AIIM 2002 from March 3 - 6, at booth #1905 in the
Moscone Convention Center, San Francisco, CA.
