I'm thinking about getting an iPad and an Android tablet to put in our showroom so that we can demonstrate different methods of mobile print. Has anyone done this and how is it working for you? There are all kinds of statistics on the amount of webpages accessed from mobile devices and naturally people are going to want to print. I think by demonstrating how easy it can be it might help win some sales.

Careful......printing to ricoh devices from mobile........sucks. Its a real weakness. If a customer asks I will set it up or demonstrate but its not something I would draw attention to until Ricoh gets its act together. Air print may work or it may not work.....some machines do but most don't. Ricoh Print & Scan app SUCKS.....yes all caps and bold sort of SUCKS. Ricoh Smart Device Connector app doesn't seem to work at all (been playing with that one this morning with no success).
Your best bet for mobile print........hate to say it.......... is to install competitor Samsung's Mobile Print app and set up the printer as an IP printer and select the generic PCL driver all the way at the bottom of the list. This app is tremendously better than Ricoh's own app.
Another good mobile app is Print Hammermill. Again, far better than Ricoh's app but may or may not print in color on color devices.
Right, I agree with your input and it is very helpful. However, I plan to show Collobos Presto which for about $1 a day would allow customers to print to any of their network printers from any mobile device (Android or Apple) using the native print dialog.
I'd like to explain to the customer that there has been a huge amount of growth in mobile usage and more and more there are becoming business processes that rely on tablets and mobile devices. For about a dollar a day this solution would simplify everything and allow their workers to do what they do best.
They want to print and we want the clicks. Win-win. If it isn't worth $1 a day, then there isn't a serious need in my opinion. Once they see how well it works if a competitor shows them something that is app based I think they will agree that the Presto solution is worth it.
That would be a concern if the only reason we were talking about an MFP was for mobile printing. I agree, If the only reason they are looking at an MFP is for mobile printing this would not be a good solution.
Art, did the printer you printed to have PostScript? I tried it to a Savin C2525 that does not have PostScript and there is no generic PCL driver...also, there are no color drivers. Am I missing something? I thought I had missed something when I found I could connect to my server and the printers shared from there...however, it doesn't recognize the drivers. This free app doesn't compare to Presto I'm afraid.
I still say you get what you pay for.
Hey, you're right. I was able to successfully print to the Savin MPC2003 also. However, even though I selected Color it printed in B&W. I have to say it is a good app for free and I'll keep it in my tool bag.
I disagree about the Ricoh app, I use it on a S5 and it works smooth. When I do a demo I take a picture of the customer and hit share then print, takes about 15 seconds from picture to output and everyone goes ooohhhhh ahhhhh. It is impressive but I suspect people will never use it. Mobile print is for most a solution looking for a problem.
I use Samsung Print Services for the non- shareable apps. Prints e-mail from G-mail and the Android Mail in a basic format.
