Good afternoon Creators,

Can you believe it’s June already?

In today’s email, I’ll be providing you with info to help you better understand the LinkedIn algorithm.

What else you'll find in this email:

  • Resources to help you plan your content
  • Events happening on LinkedIn that you should know about

This week, we are going to tackle your questions around "the algorithm”!

First, just to clear up one thing: there is no single algorithm, no one formula that determines how or which content spreads. The algorithms — yes plural — are programmed to keep attempting to give every member the best personalized experience and they are constantly changing. I wish I could give you the magic equation you need for creator success. But that doesn’t exist!

So how can you be a successful creator in times of algorithms? Keep reading for 4 quick tips below:

  1. Start — and be part of — conversations. When you get people talking, your content shows up in more feeds and fans out to their networks. When you comment on someone else’s post, you reach their audience — and they reciprocate.
  2. Focus on the long game. Don’t judge success by any one piece of content. Try to plant a forest vs a tree. If you try to game the algorithm piece by piece, you’re not going to create great content for humans.
  3. Know your audience goals and create content that will interest that audience. Do you want to reach people in your industry? In some new industry? Do you want to reach all professionals everywhere? Keep publishing and experimenting and when you see something that starts a conversation ... do more of that.
  4. Maintain trust. That means both closely hewing to community guidelines, but also maintaining trust from your followers. Former LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner used to say, “trust is consistency over time.” If your followers love your work, meaning they like and comment on your posts, then the algorithms will keep making sure they get it.

Those answers might seem almost common sense but that shouldn’t surprise you. Contrary to popular opinion, it’s actually not rocket science. Remember to stay interesting and interested, stay trustworthy, and keep experimenting. Do that and the algorithms will be on your side!
