FALLS CHURCH, Va., Nov 25, 2013 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- CSC today expanded its managed security services to include an advanced threat detection (ATD) solution enabled by the company's global network of security operation centers

.

As the sophistication of attacks on businesses and governments increases, many of the traditional tools available, such as anti-malware, intrusion detection systems and firewalls, are failing to combat these attacks effectively. The ATD service addresses non-signature-based, zero-day malware that evades traditional cybersecurity controls.

In an environment of constrained budgets, limited skilled resources, tightening regulatory mandates and escalating threats, ATD allows organizations to centralize the management of these advanced threats and focus their cybersecurity investments.

"Advanced threats, sometimes called weapons-grade threats, represent an important cybersecurity challenge, reflecting both technical sophistication, operational resources and discipline in the hands of skilled human adversaries," said Samuel S. Visner, vice president and general manager for CSC Global Cybersecurity. "Detecting such threats is vital to the protection of critical infrastructure systems, intellectual property, financial information and other valuable data. Ordinary detection technologies are not adequate, and go-it-alone selection of technologies can be haphazard and expensive. Enterprises need the ability to detect these threats, which change frequently, as part of an integrated package of cybersecurity protection services."

CSC's ATD service utilizes Trend Micro(TM) Deep Discovery, a set of malware detection and analysis software tools, to provide in-depth contextual analysis and rapid adaptive responses. CSC provides clients with real-time visibility, analysis and reporting to gain the insight and control necessary to protect their organizations from advanced threats.

The ATD service provides security protection at points of intersection between multiple organizations. While large global organizations require IT links to suppliers, partners and customers, intruders exploit the weakest links in these global chains to gain access and do harm. By identifying threats before they impact organizations, the ATD service reduces the threats across interlinked corporate entities.

"Very few enterprises have the wide variety of advanced security expertise needed to monitor and catch targeted attacks," said Wendy Nather, research director of the enterprise security practice at 451 Research. "You need to match an army of attackers with an army of defenders. CSC's ATD service offers real-time intelligence, adaptive protection and rapid response capabilities."

"Cybersecurity threats range from low-level nuisances to nation-states stealing intellectual property, resulting in the greatest transfer of wealth the world has known," said Arthur L. Money, former assistant secretary of defense for command, control, communications and intelligence. "CSC, working with its own research and that of the public sector, has developed a first-rate product and service to help us all combat these threats."
