RUMFORD -- Following a lengthy discussion, the Board of Selectmen voted unanimously Thursday to approve $8,500 for a copier, as well as a five-year ($590 per year) maintenance agreement for that machine.
This item was tabled at the Dec. 19 Board of Selectmen's meeting.
The copier, a Xerox 5855, and the maintenance agreement will be with Transco Business Technologies. Interim Town Manager John Madigan said this copier replaces a seven-year-old model, for which the town also dealt with Transco.
Selectman Jeff Sterling said Transco Business Technologies is an excellent company.
"I've worked with them with Sunday River in the past. In most cases, a copier is a copier is a copier, but what sold me on Transco Business Technologies was how quickly they were able to respond to any issues we had. They don't leave you waiting," he said.
Selectman Brad Adley was curious at why the suggested retail price for the copier they were purchasing was $21,745, even though they were purchasing it for $8,500.
There was a question whether they were purchasing or leasing the copier.
Looking at the prices, Madigan admitted it was quite a deal, noting that the copier was budgeted for.
Later, Rumford treasurer Deborah Laurinaitis confirmed that the purchase price of $8,500 was correct.
Madigan said there were four bids submitted. Transco had the third highest, but the two lower bids did not meet the specifications.
The new copier will handle the big printing jobs at the town office as well as folding and the envelopes.
Madigan said the maintenance agreement includes all parts, toner, laber and up to 100,000 copies yearly.
