Conference on office machines as profit machines

By DAVID GURLIACCI

Computers, software and office machines such as copiers, faxes and printers aren't just expenses - they can also be ways to make or save money for a business, according to the organizers of the "Office Makeover Expo" to be held Nov. 3 in Yonkers.

"When we can streamline the flow of information, we can have a tremendous impact on improving profitability," said Darrell Amy, president of Convergence Consulting Inc., based in Little Rock, Ark. Amy will conduct an hour-long seminar on using document technology to help drive business growth.

"We can leverage document management technologies to shorten the time it takes for invoices to get collected," he said. Customers who accept e-mailed invoices are for instance, he said, likely to pay them faster.

Business people can get a chance to "test drive" the latest machines from Ricoh, Okidata and Toshiba, as well as attend one of the five one-hour seminars at the daylong event, which is being put together by Atlantic Business Products Inc., a Manhattan-based company with almost half of its 150 employees at its Tarrytown office.

Along with Amy's seminar, which will be given twice, three other seminars will be presented at the conference: Tom Richardson of eCopy will speak on "How to Integrate Paper Documents into Digital Workflows." Jon Arvik of Toshiba will talk about how to lower copying and printing costs by 30 percent.

Representatives from Atlantic Business Products will speak on using remote network monitoring to cut costs and increase quality and reliability of information technology systems.

The conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Royal Regency Hotel, 165 Tuckahoe Road.

Although the event is free, registration is required. For more information, visit http://www.tomorrowsoffice.com. To register, go to the Web site or call Vida Pack at (212) 741-6400 ext. 2488.
