Competitive Info Xerox Workcentre 7500 Series

I see on the brochure on the Xerox 7525 it lists scan to searchable PDF as standard. Does anyone know if this requires software or is a function of the MFP? I know we can do this with PPDM, but was wondering if other vendors have stricly hardware solutions that would provide this capability.
