It doesn’t appear it will be too easy for the Howard County Surveyor to get his new copy machine.
The Howard County Board of Commissioners were first approached about this issue over a month ago, and the project was delayed while the surveyor investigated if any other offices need a copy machine.
“We did have several meetings with several offices, what came out of that was no one else needed one,” said Greg Lake, MS4 coordinator for Howard County. “The estimate that we had received was from Beckley’s Office equipment. We are requesting to go ahead and purchase that copier.”
However the quote that Lake presented wasn’t quite in line with what the commissioners want to spend.
“The project you are presenting right now is $2,000 higher than the last copy machines that we bought that we thought were enough to do the job for any office,” said Commissioner Paul Wyman.
Lake, who was presenting the request on behalf of Surveyor Dan Minor, said he wasn’t quite sure why the machine was more expensive.
“This is a color copier,” said Lake. “It has a scanner and a fax. It has a printing kit for the fonts upgraded to it, and I believe it was about $2,000 to $3,000 cheaper than all the ones spec’d with it. This is not a wide-format printer.”
Lake said that the office he shares with Minor needs a copy machine soon.
“Our current copier can’t be fixed again so it is just functioning right now,” said Lake. “Once it goes down it is done.”
The commissioners did not give permission for the surveyor to make the purchase.
“For what you are describing your need I think we can get it done for a couple grand cheaper,” said Wyman.
