Bucks County may be going digital but that hasn’t kept workers away from the copy machine.
The government has budgeted to spend about $20,000 more on copy paper next year. The 13 percent increase in paper costs is the result of more employees using paper, said Maureen McIlvaine, purchasing director for Bucks.
Commissioner Charley Martin called for an investigation into the use of paper.
“We should be using less with all this new technology today. Can you send me a list of who’s using more?” he asked the purchasing director.
The purchasing department keeps records of paper going to each department, but no records are kept of individual paper use, McIlvaine responded.
Martin said he couldn’t understand that. The commissioner said he is required to enter a personal code every time he uses the office copy machine.
“I use your code all the time,” joked Commissioner Robert Loughery.
The commissioners unanimously voted to approve a $167,317 contract for Xerographic paper with Office Basics Inc. of Boothwyn, Delaware County. The contract covers Bucks County through next October.
Martin said he hoped they would need to order less copy paper in the future. “It’s paper,” he said. “It won’t go bad.”
