Canon U.S.A. Launches The DR-3080cii, Next Generation High-Speed, Color Duplex Scanner
Built Upon Powerful DR-3080C Legacy, New Compact Desktop Unit Now Offers Duplex Color Scanning and USB 2.0/SCSI III Interfaces for Increased Connectivity
LAKE SUCCESS, NY – August 2, 2004 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., the nation’s market share brand leader in black-and-white and color laser copier/printer solutions , announced today the immediate launch of the Company’s new DR-3080CII high-speed color duplex document scanner, the successor to Canon’s renowned, award-winning DR-3080C .
Canon’s new DR-3080CII is a compact desktop unit designed to help departments deal with expanding document workloads and shrinking turnaround times. Building upon the successful features that have earned the DR-3000 series multiple awards, the new DR-3080CII offers users an expanded array of features and benefits, most distinct being duplex color scanning functions and dual high-speed USB 2.0 and SCSI III interfaces for increasingly easy connectivity. Canon's patented feeding system, first introduced on the DR-3020, ensures that a wide range of mixed batches and other challenging work continues to be handled with reliability and minimal operator intervention. The DR-3080CII, boasting the same reliable scanning engine found in the DR-3000 series, has a recommended Daily Duty Cycle of 4,500, making it the “workhorse” of the office.
"When Canon introduced the DR-3080C in 1997, it effectively set a new standard for departmental scanners by combining the reliability, high-speed performance and color capabilities of higher-end scanners into one sleek, simple-to-use device," said Dennis Amorosano, director and general manager, Image Filing Systems Division at Canon U.S.A. "Our new DR-3080CII, with its color duplexing and additional connectivity features, has combined the best of that original device with an extensive host of new features in order to help departments manage increased work-load and connectivity demands."

In addition to Duplex color, the DR-3080CII offers multiple scanning modes, including grayscale, black-and-white, Simplex and Duplex, and Advanced Text Enhanced. Through the use of state-of-the-art feeding and image sensor technology, the DR-3080CII provides fast, efficient scanning of up to 86 images per minute (in black-and-white Duplex mode). The DR-3080CII also includes a 100-sheet Automatic Document Feeder that automatically adjusts for documents ranging from business cards to larger-than-legal size, simplifying continuous batch scanning of mixed documents. Skew correction automatically straightens misaligned documents, further improving document throughput.
To avoid interrupted scanning jobs, the new DR-3080CII features a pop-up virtual Scan Panel allow users to change settings during scanning. Pre-Scan allows users to adjust brightness and contrast for a batch of documents dynamically, while previewing and fine-tuning just the first page. The Skip Blank Page feature automatically detects and deletes blank pages, streamlining the transmission of Simplex and Duplex documents in the same batch.
The DR-3080CII features two contact image sensors that read the front and back of a document in a single pass for fast throughput. Color Dropout further enhances throughput, so one color can be specified for omission during scanning.
Both ISIS and TWAIN drivers are included with the DR-3080CII to ensure flexible connectivity and compatibility with a host of scanning software applications. All DR-3080CII drivers work with Windows 98/2K/Me/XP and Windows NT operating systems. The scanner also comes bundled with Canon’s CapturePerfect 2.2 software for a wide range of basic and advanced document scanning management capabilities including scan-to-file and scan-to-email
The optional ED-500 Endorser imprints numbers, stamps and dates onto checks, share-drafts, and letter-sized documents. The imprint position is operator-adjustable and conforms to Federal Reserve bank regulations for check endorsement.
The Canon DR-3080CII is available through authorized Canon dealers, select distributors and Canon resellers with a U.S. suggested retail price of $3,950.
