CANON U.S.A., INC. AND COPITRAK TO LAUNCH NEW COST RECOVERY APPLICATION USING MEAP TECHNOLOGY FOR CANON imageRUNNER DEVICES
Copitrak's eClipse Cost Recovery Application Incorporates Canon's Innovative MFP Technology To Provide Law Firms with a Robust Solution for Cost Capture and Analysis
Lake Success, N.Y., January 29, 2007 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., and Copitrak today announced an agreement for Copitrak to integrate multifunction-specific cost recovery applications using Canon's innovative Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform (MEAP), providing law firms with quick and reliable cost capture and analysis information.
As part of the agreement, Copitrak will integrate their eClipse cost recovery application with Canon multifunction office equipment. This will allow users to enter and search for client related information directly at the control panel of the Canon imageRUNNER MFP, as well as provide rich device and output information, which can be fed directly into a firm's billing system. The embedded application consists of several user interface screens for entry of user and account information, and through the MFPs LAN connection provides user authentication and account validation services. The eClipse embedded product is expected to be made available in the first quarter of 2007.
"The combination of Copitrak's eClipse application and our MEAP technology will help users of Canon imageRUNNER MFPs better track, manage and assign costs associated with scanned, printed or copied documents," said Dennis Amorosano, director and general manager, Solutions Business Development Division, Canon U.S.A., Inc. "Our MEAP technology is really taking off as a key facilitator for maximizing cost recovery in the legal market."
According to Graham Allen, president, Control Systems Copitrak, "The Copitrak eClipse series has been a big success since its launch in June 2005. Delivering the eClipse graphic user interface directly through the Canon device and eliminating the need for additional hardware is a natural progression in the evolution of cost recovery programs. The MEAP technology allows us to deliver a common user experience across an entire enterprise and this ability is being embraced by the legal community like no other technology before it."
Canon was the first manufacturer in the industry to launch an MFP software development platform in 2003. The Java-based MEAP development environment provides a platform for the creation of unique applications, simplifying the interaction between users and Canon's devices, while tying tightly into a user's specific workflow. Since the introduction of MEAP, Canon has been working with third-party software vendors, customers and dealers to develop customized document workflow tasks on Canon imageRUNNER MFPs. MEAP-based applications are currently in use by organizations in the legal, hospitality, education and healthcare markets.
