New MEAP Application Provides Users with Secure, Easy to Use Interface for Document Delivery from MEAP Compatible imageRUNNER and imagePRESS Solutions

BOSTON, March 4, 2008 – Taking another step in further expanding its MEAP application portfolio, Canon U.S.A., Inc. today announced the release of its Authorized Send document distribution solution.

Authorized Send is a simple to use embedded MEAP application providing users with the ability to easily scan documents for delivery via electronic mail, to network folder locations, or directly to their desktop for manipulation. In addition to providing basic document scanning and delivery, Canon's Authorized Send also requires that users authenticate themselves prior to accessing the application. As a result, the scanning feature becomes available only when the user properly authenticates to this function.

Developed within Canon's Solutions Development Center in the United States, Authorized Send is a primary example of the execution of Canon's strategy to use its MEAP platform for not only third party development activities, but also for the development of technology which has strong local market demand in the U.S. The MEAP platform also greatly reduced the time to market required to make Authorized Send available.

"Authorized Send is a great example of Canon's MEAP development initiatives and custom development activities at work," said Sam Yoshida, vice president, Enterprise Systems Division, Canon U.S.A. "Authorized Send was initiated as a custom solution for customers requiring authenticated scanning and due to increasing customer demand has now been made into a turnkey product offering within Canon's product portfolio."

By adding Authorized Send to Canon's existing portfolio of document distribution offerings, Canon will be capable of addressing an emerging market requirement for authenticated scanning without the need to also implement additional server hardware within a customer environment. The ability to integrate and authenticate to a wide variety of servers and protocols including Windows Active Directory, Novell Netware & eDirectory as well as LDAP environments will foster Canon devices' seamless integration with corporate enterprises and infrastructures.

"The fact that Authorized Send can be deployed across an enterprise environment without the need for customers to invest in added server and IT management infrastructure, makes this solution an ideal fit for customers contemplating larger secure scanning deployments," added Yoshida

Authorized Send will be available on a per device basis in single ($1,100 SRP), ten ($10,500 SRP), and 100 ($105,000) device license packages*. Canon plans to begin shipping this software in mid-March.

BOSTON, March 4, 2008 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leading provider of digital imaging solutions, has added two new large format papers in two different weights for the Company's ever-expanding line of imagePROGRAF large format printers - Canon Premium Glossy Paper and Premium Satin Paper. Both new substrates will be available in light weight (200gsm) and heavy weight (280gsm) stocks. The light weight stocks provide an excellent economical option for Point-of-Purchase posters and proofing images, while the heavier stocks provide a higher-grade option for fine art and photography prints. With the addition of these four new media options, the Company's large format substrate portfolio is larger than ever before, and growing as new Canon-branded media is introduced each year. Canon will be debuting the new media at the Canon booth #1416 during the AIIM/On Demand Expo in Boston.

Canon Premium Glossy and Premium Satin Papers
Canon's new Premium Glossy and Premium Satin large format substrates are ideal for high quality photography, fine art and high-end graphics printing. Both new papers provide a high white-ness factor that is also less susceptible to light. A fluorescent whitening agent is often used to increase visual whiteness in media substrates, but fluorescent agents may react to ultraviolet rays, causing the print's white space to change drastically under different lighting conditions. Canon's new Premium Glossy and Premium Satin papers do not use these fluorescent agents and achieve their high-grade white appearance through the use of high white pulps. The new Canon substrates also incorporate Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) pulps promoting environmental friendliness. ECF is a bleaching agent that eliminates persistent, bio-accumulative toxic substances from paper mill waste water.

Canon's Premium Glossy paper incorporates a two-layer surface structure. The top layer is a thicker resin-coated, increasing the smoothness of media surface and reducing light reflection. The smooth top surface layer reduces light diffusion (ie; fluorescent light), and enhances the natural gloss appearance of the paper. The second layer promotes ink absorption allowing the top layer to remain glossy and helps prevent ink from bleeding.

The new heavyweight 280gsm Premium Glossy and Premium Satin papers are available in 17x22 inch cut sheet and rolls from 17 inches up to 60 inches wide. The new lightweight 200gsm Premium Glossy and Premium Satin papers are available in rolls from 17 inches up to 60 inches wide. All of these new Canon papers are expected to be available in early April through authorized Canon dealers.

Postal Perfect Reply Cards
New to the Specialty Print Media Line-up, Canon introduces Postal Perfect Reply Cards - a new solution for customers looking to create customized mail pieces with a pre-populated reply cards. The new paper weight meets USPS standards so that the reply card can be dropped in any US mail box. The Canon Postal Perfect Reply Cards are approved to work on many Canon devices, including imagePRESS digital production presses and many Color imageRUNNER and imageRUNNER devices. The new cards are available in two weights both of which are acceptable for the U.S. Postal Service. In accordance with U.S. Postal Service standards which requires reply cards to be between 3.5x5 and 4.25x6 inches and at least 7pt., Canon offers the Postal Perfect Reply Cards in both 7pt. and 9pt. in order to accommodate different sized reply cards. Once printed this paper can be trimmed and scored to produce ideal reply card mailers.

Canon Postal Perfect Reply Cards are acid, chlorine and lignin free which promotes the archival quality of the media while lignin-free increases the paper's strength and allows it to remain whiter longer. These environmentally friendly papers contain 50 percent recycled fiber content with 30 percent post consumer fiber and are now currently available through authorized Canon dealers.

Boston, March 4, 2008 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leading provider of office imaging systems, inkjet technology and digital photography equipment, today announced the latest addition to its large format printer line-up – the 24 inch imagePROGRAF iPF605 large format printer. This iPF605 is designed to ideally support the printing needs of technical document users working with Computer-Aided Design (CAD), GIS (Geographic Information Systems), and AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) applications as well as entry-level users in general office environments.

The new Canon imagePROGRAF iPF605 printer builds on the Company's five-color dye/pigment Reactive ink system line of printers, which includes the imagePROGRAFiPF720, iPF710, iPF610 and the iPF500. The iPF605 joins the iPF610 as part of Canon's 24-inch printer portfolio, sharing much of the same advanced technology. The streamlined iPF605 prints from both roll media as well as cut sheet through the front loading manual feed. Without a cassette tray, the iPF605 printer is aimed to be an affordable solution for personal and small workgroup users producing large format technical drawings. The printer's small footprint fits nicely into a smaller work environment, while producing uncompromised print quality seen on Canon's larger printer models.

"Today's technical markets demand sharp, clear and eye-catching prints to make an impression and deliver a powerful message. The new imagePROGRAF iPF605 will print the most detailed architectural, automotive or product development design renderings accurately, sharply and precisely," said Jim Rosetta, vice president and general manager, Imaging Systems Group, Canon U.S.A.

The iPF605 offers amazing printing speed taking as little as 33 seconds* to complete an A1-sized full-density color plot (33.1 x 23.4 inches). This incredible speed is enabled by Canon's advanced PF-03 print head with 1.07 inch print swaths, and equipped with 2,560 nozzles per color (C, M, Y, K) with 5,120 nozzles for matte black. To process incoming files quickly and accurately the iPF605 printer also uses Canon's L-COA processor, found in the Company's larger printer models. Also to ensure the reliable processing of large-sized files and plots the printer is equipped with 256MB of on-board memory. The iPF605 boasts line accuracy of ±0.1%**, minimum line weight at 0.02mm***, and the maximum printing resolution of 2400x1200 dpi.

Technical drawing users can feel at ease about their software compatibility, the iPF605 printer supports the widely available HP-GL/2 and HP-RTL page description languages. Also included are AutoCAD(r) HDI Driver, Digital Photo Front-Access software for easy photo printing from digital cameras as well as the new PosterArtist Lite- Poster Creation Software.

Canon's PosterArtist Lite enables users to create and print large-format applications such as posters and banners without the need for expensive professional software. PosterArtist Lite includes QuickCopy, which turns CanoScan desktop scanners into an enlargement copier by directly linking the scanner to the printer with a touch of a button. More information on PosterArtist Lite and Canon's optional PosterArtist 2007 can be found at Canon's new web-site http://www.usa.canon.com/posterartist. This web site includes interactive software tutorials and has a downloadable trial version for users to try PosterArtist on their own computer.

The five-color dye/pigment Reactive ink system includes four highly colorfast dye ink cartridges each containing 130ml**** and two pigment-based matte black cartridges providing up to 260ml of matte black for longer uninterrupted print operation. Canon's ink formulation is designed for optimized print image quality on more than 20 types of Canon Genuine print media including bond paper such as Universal Bond, High Resolution Coated Bond for razor sharp line drawing and vivid graphic rendering, photo paper such as Glossy and Satin Photographic Paper in variety of weights for posters and presentations, and film such as Double Matte Film and Clear Film.

New imagePROGRAF iPF720 Large Format Printer Includes 80GB Hard Drive For Printing Large Technical Documents From Multiple Workstations

Boston, March 4, 2008 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leading provider of office imaging systems, inkjet technology and digital photography equipment, today announced a new large format printer ideally suited for multi-user workgroups - the imagePROGRAF iPF720 large format printer. This new addition to Canon's imagePROGRAF printer line-up is designed for printing Computer-Aided Design (CAD), GIS (Geographic Information Systems), and AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) applications as well as any other technical document market. The Company will display the new imagePROGRAF iPF720 large format printer at the AIM/On Demand tradeshow in the Canon booth #1416.

Printing at 36 inches wide and built on the successful and proven-reliable iPF710 platform, the new Canon imagePROGRAF iPF720 printer is positioned as the flagship model in the Company's five-color large format printer family. Specifically targeting the large format technical document market, the new iPF720 printer incorporates a built-in 80GB hard drive ideal for medium to large workgroup users who need to print large files or sets of files from multiple workstations.

The addition of the large-capacity hard drive gives multiple users the ability to share a printer efficiently, allowing plots to be queued at the printer freeing up the host computer memory. The iPF720 printer not only accommodates multiple users who are accustomed to using hard-disk equipped workgroup printers, but also provides next-generation technology with blazingly fast printing speed at less than one minute (55 seconds*) to print an A0-sized full-density color plot (33.1 x 46.8 inches), 1200dpi high resolution printing with 0.02mm minimum line width**, precise ±0.1% line accuracy***, and a large printing area with only 3mm of margins all around with roll feed paper.

"Large format printing and plotting requires specific tools, and compatibility to ideally sync with existing workflows, all while keeping print costs to a minimum and still producing stunning and accurate prints. It is with these customer interests in mind that we are proud to introduce the imagePROGRAF iPF720 large format printer," said Jim Rosetta, vice president and general manager, Imaging Systems Group, Canon U.S.A.

In addition, its small footprint (less than 60 inches wide) allows the user to replace the existing 36-inch wide printer without rearranging the office layout. Designed specifically with CAD, GIS and AEC users in mind, the iPF720 printer supports HP-GL/2 and HP-RTL page description languages to ensure compatibility with virtually any technical document applications. The printer comes with the AutoCAD® imagePROGRAF HDI Driver (Windows only) and imagePROGRAF Printer Driver compatible with both Windows and Macintosh. The printer driver includes such innovative features as Free Layout which enables nesting of several smaller drawings or documents on a larger sheet. This feature saves both paper and the effort to lay them out manually.

After selecting "Print," the software's Real Preview feature provides the ability to modify print settings for last-minute adjustments or to correct potential layout errors through a real-time preview window. Additionally, the imageRUNNER Enlargement Copy feature lets users create a hot folder on their desktop to enlarge and print single- and multiple-page PDF documents created by Color imageRUNNER devices directly to the imagePROGRAF printer. This feature also works by dragging and dropping PDF files into the designated hot folder for enlarged printing.

As with the iPF710, the iPF720 printer includes an Economy Print Mode to produce draft prints on select media while significantly reducing the total ink consumption. This mode is ideal for producing quick check plots while minimizing the cost per print. The Economy Print Mode, Enlargement Copy and Real Preview features are all supported on both Windows and Macintosh operating systems.

PosterArtist Lite
The iPF720 printer comes bundled with Canon's new PosterArtist Lite - an easy to use poster creation software. PosterArtist Lite gives users the ability to quickly and easily create professional large format prints without a complicated poster-making process. Users simply follow the program's four easy steps to create professional looking posters for in-house announcements, presentations, signs or banners. The PosterArtist QuickCopy feature transforms a user's CanoScan desktop scanner into an enlargement copier, allowing letter-sized flyers and documents to be quickly printed to full-size posters with a touch of a button. A built-in weblink feature connects PosterArtist Lite users directly to the PosterArtist website at http://www.usa.canon.com/posterartist for useful hints and tips, as well as free content downloads. For those with more demanding poster creation needs, Canon offers PosterArtist 2007 as an option, with more advanced features including more poster templates and royalty-free photos and clip art, Auto Design, Variable Data Printing, and advanced image editing features.

The five-color dye/pigment Reactive ink system includes four highly colorfast dye ink cartridges each containing 130ml**** and two 130ml cartridges of pigment-based matte black for longer uninterrupted print operation.

The imagePROGRAF iPF720 printer will be available through authorized Canon U.S.A. dealers in late April 2008, with a manufacturer suggested selling price of $5,395.
