LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., May 28, 2008 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leading provider of office imaging systems, inkjet technology and digital photography equipment, today announced its Color imageRUNNER C5185, a digital multi-functional device (MFP), received an overall rating of five stars from BERTL, Inc., an independent analyst firm. Standing as a flagship model, the Canon Color imageRUNNER C5185 offers high reliability and speed for both color and monochrome document production needs.

To determine the performance of the Color imageRUNNER C5185 model, BERTL conducted extensive testing based on a set of predetermined criteria within 13 categories: Build Quality, Network Administration, Security, Workflow, Finish, Ease of Use, Media Handling, Copying, Scanning, Printing, Image Quality, Features and Price. The Color imageRUNNER C5185 received more than four stars in at least six of the categories, including a perfect five-star rating in both the Copying and Printing categories.

“It is an honor to have the Canon Color imageRUNNER C5185 model recognized for its speed and quality,” said Sam Yoshida, vice president and general manager, Enterprise Systems Division, Canon U.S.A. “Offices today are busy and need reliable solutions to deliver results at increasingly faster speeds without sacrificing appearance and color fidelity. The high marks from BERTL are consistent with Canon’s mission of delivering quality products to the market.”

“Canon’s Color imageRUNNER C5185 proved to be a solid mid- to high-volume color imaging system with many exceptional features capabilities to recommend it,” said Terry Wirth, director, Research and Analysis, BERTL. “Overall image quality, a hallmark with Canon imaging products, was rock-solid in both black-and-white and color modes, and printer and copier modes.”

Designed with versatility in mind, the Canon Color imageRUNNER C5185 model provides reliable productivity across office and professional environments. Additionally, using a variety of print controller options, including the Canon UFR/PCL/PS Kit, imagePASS-H1 and ColorPASS-GX200, the device is appropriate for any environment where color consistency is a priority, such as graphic arts departments, commercial print shops, and corporate offices and mid-size workgroups. Producing documents in both color and monochrome, this device is ideal for mid- to high-volume production printing, copying, and scanning with speeds of up to 51 pages-per-minute (ppm) in standard letter size.

For fast and reliable scanning, the Color imageRUNNER C5185 model incorporates a standard 100-sheet Single-Pass Duplexing Automatic Document Feeder (DADF) capable of scanning in full color up to 600 dots-per-inch (dpi). The DADF helps enhance productivity by simultaneously scanning both sides of duplex documents at up to 100 impressions per minute at 300 dpi.

To meet needs across different production segments, the MFP was designed with a selection of advanced features including Canon’s Universal Send and MEAP (Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform) architecture.

Canon’s Color imageRUNNER C5185 meets the ENERGY STAR® guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Canon is a long-time ENERGY STAR partner, and is a strong advocate of consumer education of energy-efficient products through its product labeling and environmental programs.
