Lake Success, N.Y., February 19, 2008 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in document imaging and office solutions, today added to its extensive color line-up of award-winning imageRUNNER MFPs with the introduction of the Canon Color imageRUNNER C2550 device. With its sleekly designed and compact footprint, the Color imageRUNNER C2550 device is ideal for smaller offices and workgroups, and addresses today’s evolving and complex document management needs, including project collaboration and document security.

Enabling users to save time and achieve higher productivity, the Canon Color imageRUNNER C2550 prints in color up to 23 pages-per-minute (ppm) and in monochrome up to 25 ppm for letter-sized output. The new Canon imageRUNNER model comes standard with UFRII (Ultra Fast Rendering) printing to facilitate high-speed color up to 1,200 dots-per-inch (dpi) printing and Color Universal Send to enable the distribution of scanned documents to multiple network destinations.

Using Canon’s imageCHIP (Concurrent Hyper Intelligent Platform) system architecture, the new Canon Color imageRUNNER device brings high performance and data processing capability, as well as reliable color to office users. The robust imageCHIP system architecture, with its dual CPU design and increased memory capacity (up to 1.5GB RAM and 80GB Hard Drive), helps to simultaneously process documents that are scanned, copied or printed quickly and efficiently.

“Given that floor space is at a premium in a majority of today’s office environments, the Canon Color imageRUNNER C2550 is the right fit for many offices, delivering one device with the same capabilities that otherwise would require multiple systems and a lot of office space,” said Sam Yoshida, vice president and general manager, Enterprise Systems Division, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “Canon’s multifunction products tackle diverse needs across a broad spectrum of business sizes and sectors to provide a smarter and less expensive approach to color in the office.”

As businesses expand their operations across satellite offices and geographies, the Canon Color imageRUNNER C2550 offers solutions for secure and efficient document collaboration. Users can securely access the Web or corporate intranets from the device to download and print Web pages or PDF files with Canon’s Web Access Software – an industry first.

For added security, Canon includes a Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) protocol to help ensure shared documents are securely transferred between users in any location with Web access. The new devices support IPv6 for enhanced network infrastructure management, and are available with Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Data Erase and HDD Data Encryption options to further protect stored, scanned and printed data.

Through the device’s Access Management System, administrators have greater security and cost controls over device access at the user- and group-levels. Authentication schemes and access include Single Sign-On (SSO) using network accounts, Simple Device Log-In (SDL), and Department ID Mode with optional Control Card/Card Reader system.

The Canon Color imageRUNNER C2550 is also available with a number of options to increase office productivity and performance. The device supports an optional internal finisher that can corner or double-staple multi-page documents without increasing the footprint of the device. An Inner 2 Way Tray option can also provide dual paths for output, providing separation of copies, prints or faxes. An optional 50-sheet Duplexing Automatic Document Feeder (DADF) accessory allows users to scan or copy documents at up to 44 impressions-per-minute (ipm) at 300 dots-per-inch (dpi) in black-and-white and color.

The embedded print controller also allows for a number of printing options to be added to the new Color imageRUNNER C2550, including PCL 5c/6, PostScript 3 emulation support and Wireless LAN option.

The Color imageRUNNER C2550 meets the ENERGY STAR® guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Canon is a long-time ENERGY STAR partner, and is a strong advocate of consumer education of energy-efficient products through its product labeling and environmental programs.

The Canon Color imageRUNNER C2550 model will be available immediately through Canon authorized dealers and Canon Business Solutions at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $8,000.
