Research Firm Results Show Company Is #1 In Every Speed Segment of Market
LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 2, 2003--Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. (NYSE: CAJ - News) and leader in digital imaging solutions, announced today that it again achieved the overall number one market share position for copiers sold in the U.S. in 2002, for the fifth consecutive year, according to market studies completed this month by Gartner Dataquest(*).
The achievement also marks the first time Canon holds the number one position in every black-and-white copier speed segment, from desktop PC models to production level devices.
Overall, 604,293 Canon black-and-white copiers were sold in the U.S. in 2002, giving the Company a commanding 35% of the market. Overall, the black-and-white copier market grew 3.6%, with digital models comprising almost 80% of the total.

The Dataquest research studies focused on market share for color, and for black-and-white copiers of both digital and analog technology, combined, including PC copiers and copiers in Segments 1-6, which range in speed from 11 to 90+ copies-per-minute (cpm).
In color laser copier shipments, Canon placed first with 36% share of the U.S. market.
The 2002 results also mark the 20th time in the last 21 years that Canon has held the total number one position in the U.S., and 16th consecutive year Canon Color Laser Copiers (CLC) have held the top spot in color.
