Below is the write up by one of my tech's about a problem we are having with a 480W customer. Thought I would post it here to see if anyone has any thoughts. Thanks!

Have a customer utilizing SMB scanning on the RW480 using PDF file format. When scanning a document 24" x 200 " the file shows up in the folder with a file size of 1.79MB, physical size of 24 x 200, but the image is blank. Normal Architectural & Ansi Drawings show fine. Tried setting scan size for width and leaving length as "auto detect" - blank image. The only way to get a visible image, was to set width & length. Have tried other length documents with same results. Not sure where the cut-off is between image and no image. This is unacceptable for the customer, as they are trying to archive files, and the documents are all various lengths, so not knowing the actual length creates excess paper waste when having to print out a drawing for a customer. The other issue, is the RW480 that was in our Demo Room scanned the document into a visable file no matter what length or scan setting, which the customer observed when they were in for their demo. I printed out SMC sheets from both units, and the only difference I saw was the System firmware on our demo unit was (2) versions lower at 3.04, and their unit was 3.06. I went out and downgraded their unit to the 3.04 with no change for image results. They also have ScanTool set up as they use the PlotBase server for plotting. When scanning using ScanTool, there is a visable image no matter what length.

Srry I was thinking of scantool.

As art mentioned I have seen alot of problems with different versions of Adobe. Just curious, what happens when you scan as a TIFF???

Also could it be an issue with the memory installed in the machine??? We have seen wierd issues where dirty contacts on the memory was the culprit and we have also seen memory go bad.
I'll have my tech check into the memory idea. With respect to the TIFF scanning, the customer is only able to bring them up in certain versions of a Microsoft application (not sure of the application but it can be used to view TIFF files). A few of their desktops have the version that will show the file but the rest do not and it's not feasible to update all the other desktops. Kind of wierd.
