I have having some difficulty with one of my Realtors printing from a particular program. The program is Auto Contract. The program prints Real Estate Contracts. (they have the most recent version) Every time we send a job, the AF1045 cancels the job. Can't send it to Doc. Server either. I'm using the RPCS drivers only. Could this be the problem? Or rather...has anyone had a similar experience. Help is GREATLY appreciated with this one.

Does the RPCS driver really enlarge the file size large enough to cause disruption?

Thanks Guys, the PCL5e Drivers worked for the Win98's and Win2K's. However, the people using XP can't print it. Any suggestions???????

I have no problem printing from Windows XP. The one thing that you need to do sometimes with XP is to change the port type from RAW to LPR. Try that and it should work for ya.

I'm talking about printing the "Auto Contract" program used by Realtors, using the Win XP-PCL5e Drivers, on a Ricoh Aficio 1045, which by the way contains a 10GB HDD, 96MB of RAM, Four-500 Sheet paper drawers, & a 2-Tray Finisher with 2 & 3 Hole Punch. Is this what you are specifically refering to also in your message (number 7 of now 8)?????

I have a customer who has had a difficult time printing from certian programs out of Windows XP and changing the printing port within WinXP on that printer from RAW to LPR for some reason helped fix this issue. I am not sure if it will work in your situation but it is worth a try

We try to convince the network person that what we are doing will not have a negative impact on his network traffic and bandwidth, things like unchecking collate in the application and using collate in the driver, disabling the unneeded protocols on the network cards, the fact that the Ricoh drivers are more efficient.
I printed the new Fax 1160 Sales Guide (51 pages, 1 set) to various paused printers on my local machine to see what the files sizes were:

Aficio 1045 PCL5e 7.06MB
Aficio 1045 PCL6 39.4 MB
Aficio 1045 RPCS 12.2 MB
HP 8150 PCL5e 7.18 MB
HP 8150 PCL6 42.2 MB

Thanks!

Any other ideas to get AutoContract to print with XP? Here is my guy's response to Graham's last suggestion.

Ted-

Unfortunately, that solution did not work. So I tried all sorts of combinations in the Advanced and Ports tabs of the printer's properties. I first made sure that this particular user had permissions to that printer. In the Ports tab, I changed the setting from RAW to LPR. At that point, XP asks for a LPR Queue name, so I chose "josh" (the name of the user). There's also a box to check for "LPR Byte Counting Enabled". I checked it and tested. It printed out the same thing as yesterday: blank page except for the program's fine print at the page's bottom. I then unchecked the box and tried again - same result. Then I opened the Advanced tab and alternated between Spooling (from computer before sending to printer) and "Print Directly to Printer". With both of these choices, I tried all combinations described above. Same result: blank except for fine print. Just to be sure, I tried playing with settings on the original RPCS driver and it didn't print at all (as it was before when printing out AutoContract documents). Might you have another idea?

Sorry,
I deleted a couple messages that I answered myself...

I just loaded the Auto Contract Demo from autorealty.com and was able to print from my XP machine with no problems from . I don't know what to tell you now???
Graham

Make sure machine firmware is at latest level and why would you use Josh as the LPR port name? On the network interface cards with the mac address 00-00-74-xx-xx-xx, the port name is always going to be lp.

Thanks!

I have to state, that when I usually hear about jobs being "dumped" into "outer-space," what I usually do is have somebody stand at the 1035/1045/1060/1075/AP3800 while I retransmit the job. I ask them to pay close attention to the data transfer light (on the control panel; the image of a triangle with an arrow) to see if it blinks. If the light blinks a couple of times and stops, and nothing prints, the issue is due to the user code functions of the copier/printer. Try to turn off the user codes temporarily and re-transmit the job. If your prints work, you'll have to make sure that the user code information is sent with the print job (within the driver). I'm not familiar with the Auto Contract program, so you may have to hard set the user code within the driver properties of the printers folder. Hope this info helps.

That must be one quirky little program.
Is this similar to what it is printing at the bottom?
Computer generated using AutoContract™ v4.11 software, from AutoRealty Products, Inc., 1060 W. Pipeline, Suite 101, Hurst, TX 76053, (800) 322-1178 This installation of AutoContract™ is licensed for use to: Huddleston, and is not transferable. Use by others is a violation of federal copyright law under Title 17 U.S.C. §101. D:\Documents and Settings\Patrick\My Documents\Auto Contract\MSH - MSH 4plex New Const.000 printed 01-06-2002

I looked at the software manufacturer's website (http://www.autorealty.com/2001/) and they have some troubleshooting information there that might be helpful, some of it concerning printing and application versions. According to them, their latest release of software has caused them some support "issues". They also give you the ability to download a 5 day trial. Might be useful for troubleshooting in the demo room and trying to print from a different system to a different machine (see detail about 1045/1027 below). They even have some support numbers and contacts on their website that might be of use as well.

Here's what I would do to try to fix this:

First of all, when defining an LPR port name, the correct LPR port name is lp (lower case LP). While using JOSH as the port name would probably work, it's not a correct setup. If the 1045 is powered on whan adding a Standard TCP/IP port, it should find the printer, identify it as Ricoh Network Printer C and configure the port properly without any further intervention. By the way, have your guy go to Ricoh-usa.com, then support and search for a white paper about Standard TCP/IP. It might help him out some.

Second, make sure the firmware in all parts of the machine are at the latest levels. Have your guy go to the TSC site and verify/reload all of the system software in the machine.

Third, go to the properties of your 1045 and define the driver as whatever they are currently printing to. If they are using an HP LaserJet 4000 and using the PCL 6 driver, use it to drive your machine and see what happens.

Fourth, (after I got output using the HP driver) I would try each Ricoh driver, being sure to download the latest ones from the web. I would start with the PCL5, then move on to PCL6, etc.

I ran into a similar situation recently printing screenshots from SAP and found some differences within the Ricoh products themselves (learn something new every day). The 1027 with PCL5 would print the screenshot with no problem. The 1045 printing the same screenshot printed blank sheets and seemed to be in labor doing it. Using the 1027 driver with the 1045 got us output, but some surprising driver differences betwen the two machines made the 1045 call for the wrong size paper when using the 1027 driver. The PCL6 for the 1045 seems to have fixed the problem.

Good Luck!

Lee

Hello Mr Tibbs!
I have seen several times what you are talking about (the jobs dumping due to user codes). Interesting story: We follow up all of our connected machines and assist in the connection to the network. We had one that went to a university a while back and we were informed by their technical staff that our help was not needed as they were all network engineers and quite capable of setting up a printer. They called us about a week later and demanded that we come and pick the piece of junk up because three network engineers had worked on it for two days and couldn't make it work.
One of my guys went in there, pointed out the flashing light, then showed them the web page of the machine where it said access denied and then showed them how to fix it. He then proceeded to set it up for NDPS and demo'd SmartNet Monitor.
They have since become one of our better customers....

Thanks!
Lee
