Any comparison of Ricoh 240-480 vs Xerox 6204

I have a prospect that is supposed to be using one inhouse for a weeklong demo later this month. He told me I could come by and check it out when he is using it. So, if that happens, I can respond back at that time but it won't be until later this month.

right now the obvious things are:

XES is brand new - ask for current customer references!

ricoh still has smaller footprint.

Push advantages of external controller over embedded controller. If you need more help with that one, search for more info in this P4P site.

If anyone get copies of competitve quotes please post here!

Some more points.

Windows Driver is GDI only! Probably very slow when printing pdf from various clients!

Users can't stack scan like the 240W, the must scan and remove each page one at a time. Another waste of time!

You must press the stop button after every copy (got this right from the OP manual).

No Photo exposure, no text photo, all I saw in the manual was three adjustments for Contrast and three adjustments for Exposure.

Shaft Paper Roll! Hold onto to your back and clear a large space in order to replace the paper!

Toner is drop and tap. Old style like the 7030D from Ricoh!

Weight: A $%#$%^& monster, 536lbs, try getting that up a flight of stairs or two flights!!!!!

Floor space requirements: D: 76 inches, W: 99 inches. So much for the small foot print design.

Printing with the PostScript Driver:
· If a media source (example: Roll 1) is specified, the auto rotate and auto scaling features are

I just ran into this and WITHOUT the scanning, they were around $12,000 for copy/print.

I think the dimensions listed above may be incorrect. I looked up the specs and got the following information:

I just reread your previous post and realized that I may have misread it initially. Do you know why the "floor requirements are so much greater then the dimensions of the machines, especially the width is almost 60 inches wider! I can't imagine why you would need that much space.

Checked out the new Xerox at a customer's site and this is what I found:

Meter reading displays separate meter read for each roll.
Need to slide doc feed forward and actually lift off the machine to clear jam in doc feed area.
Originals are right justified to scan or copy versus centering like the 240W.
To make copy, you need to use touch screen panel to select "Synchro". If you don't select, you will get a copy that is a standard size with lots of blank paper around the image.
Scan to mailbox looked pretty slick. Just select scan and pick your mailbox name. Go back to your desk and it's there - not mixed with other people's scans.
There was a Print from Memory button on the unit but he did not know what it was for.
Paper loading is pretty easy. Just set the paper roll in place. A sensor automatically senses the paper and pulls it into position. No turning wheels or pressing buttons. If the leading edge is not straight, you can then use the button to move forward and cut like we do on the 480W.
There is an optional stacker available to stack originals versus one at a time. Adds about 18" to back of machine.
Doc feed table is good size.
Machine is pretty quiet.
To clear misfeed from machine, there is a latch on the right and the upper half of the machine opens up and tilts back to expose the misfeed.
Toner is dumped in hopper like the 7030D but here are no screws to latch back down which was a problem with 7030D. Just flip the panel back and you are all set.
Machine is heavy but looks very sturdy and durable.
Bypass folds up and out of the way when not in use.
Price customer paid - approx. $16,500
Maintenance is $1,175 a year for 2,500 square feet per month. Toner extra.

I believe this is like reprinting something from Plotbase...the only difference is that you can only do it with the last job and not other past prints...I am not 100% positive on this however

 The Xerox 6204 uses a Fuju Xerox controller which has no auto recognition of file types. This can cause the controller to lock up require operator intervention to clear the queue.

 The 6204 cannot save print jobs for later recall and use.

 The Xerox 6204 is listed as a mono component device; however it is not 100% toner efficient and requires a waste toner bottle to be replaced. The unit will shut down if the waste toner bottle is full

 The 6204 delivers prints out the front of the unit. With a full configuration of scanner and printer, this eliminates the possibility of using sophisticated finishing devices like a folder because it blocks the operator’s access in front.

 The 6204 does not support DWF printing.

 The cost of PDF support for the 6204 is $1400, twice the cost of the KIP 3000 PDF converter.

 The BT Plot Assistant Software (print submission tool) does not have a viewer.

 The Controller re-rips or processes files per copy, i.e. if a user sends a tiff file to print 10 copies, the controller processes the file 10 times. This is very slow and inefficient in a set printing environment.

 The 6204 cannot scan to FTP.

 The operator panel on the 6204 is a small, difficult to navigate backlit screen. The KIP 3000 screen is a large color screen that users prefer.

 You cannot buy the 6204 as a copier only.

 You cannot adjust the speed of the scanner – 3 ips.

 The 6204 is upgradeable to 5 “D”’s, however, you must also upgrade the power to 220.

 Prints limited to 99.

 You can only scan to 50 mailboxes.

Just to add some fuel to the fire:

A lost prospect told me she hates it...mainly because it is an awkward angle to put in originals and they don't go in straight...and it BEEPS all the time. They try to turn it off and it just keeps beeping everytime it does something. Can be a big annoyance for anyone in the same room.
