Aficio 3045 user quotas

I actually had a user request the same thing. The only solution is a third party product. However I don't think Canon or Xerox can do this.

Can any Canon dealers or old xerox guys confirm this?

Neither a card reader or Equitrac is the right answer. Equitrac is a print accounting software. What you need is a Print management software and if it is under $1,000, it probably isn't going to do what you need. I would name names but I'm not sure which ones do what you ask but I know it is out there because I have seen demos.

All of our school districts are asking for the same thing. A salesman in one of our branches has been installing keypads from HECON (about $515.00 from a 3rd party distributor here in the states). Unfortunately, that 3rd party distributor closed down. We were just discussing trying to contact HECON directly to see if they will sell to us...you might try the same thing.

I, too, would be interested in hearing about the competition...according to our local school districts, Ricoh is the only brand that doesn't have this as a standard feature. I would like to know for sure.

Dear All, You have left me speachless. I realy appriciate the prompt replies from all. I feel a bit better knowing that I am not the only one to meet such problems and a better feeling of not being alone. One cna easily say that this is realy a site built by Genteleman for Getleman. Will keep an eye open to see if any one comes up with any report of Canon/Xerox machines.

I think Print Audit will do it. Copy Guard is another one. But it has to be 3rd party for sure.

We do Ricoh and Canon. The Canon box can set user limits (B&W and/or Color). The Ricoh cannot without Access Control Product. I have a list of venders that provide the hardware/software. However, you can easily find one with a internet search. If you want names, I can provide if requested. We have not had to use them because we have access to Canon. Not sure about the Xerox.

hello all, whilst thanking you all for the information supplied so far, I would like to add yet another question to this problematic customer. Whislt awaitng for a solution for my previous the client has started using the AF2045 and 3030 on the network. One of his requests was the use of some sort of confidential printing and for those who have come across it, Ricoh has just introduced new software call "Enhanced Locked Print" Since he started using this software, he has been calliong 2 to 3 times a day with complains that users are loosing files they had intended to print. In our tests we confimed that if one tried to print separate documents in one batch the machine would reset around the 8th doc and clear the rest of the docs. We later discovered that the machine was reseting and switched all auto reset timers ut we still get an sc 920-04 (internal application error) code forcing the administrator to switch off and on as the machine locks up. Has anyone met such a problem.

What does the software solution provide that the built in "locked print" doesnt provide. Besides the endless customer complaint, I mean.

hello all, we have just had a solution or a workarond, up to now. We have got everything working as it should by using PCL 5 driver instead of PCL 6. We are still monitoring but for the past 2 days we had no more problems. Ricoh are working on PCL 6 for some sort of bug as well as a reason that causes the machine to fall back to printer defauks settings after each print job when using RPCS. Will keep you posted.

This is an Australian product that is very low cost and may work for you. It is mostly focussed on print control. They are pretty easy to set up a reseller account with and so far appear to be on the ball. Haven't used it a lot but we're finding even small companies are looking for the cost control for colour printing.

Hello again, last update from client is that system is still working without any problem for the past week. Seems that PCL 5 has solved the problem. I am still waitng for s solution for the PCL 6 and RPCS drivers from Ricoh. Will inform you as soon as any news turns up

Just a note: PCL6 is a new architecture and sometimes doesnt play well with older sw products. All of a sudden it will print hearts instead of !, things like that. And usually I am out the door and back at the office before the fault is discovered. I dont install 6 unless the customer insists. Actually the same goes for RPCS, if the customer has a need for some of the featues that is one thing, but if not, it has a longer learning curve so again I go with the PCL5e or c

Hello again all, the saga of the ELP continues and we are now calling this soap opera the ELP saga. We had changed over to PCL 6 to solve the loss of files whilst ELP printing but after a short while we noticed that we having printing rights problems. If userA created a doc and shared it with user B, after having printed it through ELP, user B cloud read and edit this file but could not print unless he inputed user A password and vice versa. Funnely enough if user B createed say another sheet in the same workbook, he would be able to print this whist user A would not. Finally we solved this by reverting to RPCS. This as I had explained had the problem of default settings which can be changed through "properties" "advanced settings" one has to change from normall print to locked print and diable the "return to normal printing" tab. Then you are prompted to input a user name and password. Eventually you will start finding all you confidential print jobs on the screen in folder called whtever name you chose. you select the folder and input the password and printing is then enabled. a few things to wath out for. 1 DO NOT update to the latest driver version now found on the internet as will loose files again. 2 do not install any other drivers before or after the RPCS driver that comes on the CD delivered with the machine. Except for XP you will not be able to revert to olderversions of drivers later on. 3 do not install desk top manager as this is at the moment giving intermitent problems. The best results are obtained by not using "easy install" but RPCS direct and only that. A bit of a long chapter but all this took 3 more weeks. Hope this helps
