• Met with Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau director Glenda Purkis to discuss a copier proposal. The CVB advisory board in April voted to recommend a 5-year lease purchase with Consolidated Printing, Salina, for a Konica-Minolta copier.
Purkis said the CVB in light of a tight budget, had only included $2,000 for equipment needs. She said the current copier is over 10 years old. The current copier was originally in the police department before it was moved over to the CVB’s offices.
The proposed lease was for $188 a month and included the trade-in for the current one; plus a $1,000 rebate was an added incentive, she said. The agreement also includes a maintenance pact, plus the vendor would connect CVB administrative computers.
City manager Allen Dinkel said there are several other administrative areas that are need of potential upgrades.
Commissioners said they did want to at least evaluate what an outright purchase might mean. They agreed with the merits of a new machine and functions that were practical.
Dinkel asked?Purkis to obtain the information. The city commissioners said they would be willing to consider action as early as Monday.
Dinkel said the CVB relies on the transient guest tax to fund operations, marketing and equipment. The mid-December 2007 ice storm gave the city an unprecedented increase in collections because of the need for residents and people tied to the utility industry.
Commissioner Lynn Peterson said the information on a lease-purchase as well as purchasing one would be helpful. He said if other departments were going to purchase their copiers, then the commission might want to weigh that into its deliberation.
Weishaar said he did not want the CVB to be at a disadvantage, though, because of how its operations are funded in comparison to other departments.
Dinkel said while there have been discussions in other administrative areas, he said they have not gotten to the point where he could make a recommendation.
