3D Printing Helps OCC Build a Dream Bike
When Orange County Choppers (OCC), the motorcycle shop made famous by the Discovery Channel’s “American Choppers” reality series, needed a custom part built with the ultimate design freedom and durable, lightweight materials, it turned to 3D printing.
The 3D printed part is a fierce, lifelike Chinese dragon head that completes a client’s one-of-a kind dream bike. “It couldn’t just be any dragon,” says designer Jason Pohl in a behind-the-scenes video. “We injected it with life and adrenaline, and it has emotion.”
Without Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) Technology — the part would have cost more and taken longer to build. And the resulting dragon head would have had a simpler design with less personality.
Check out the video to see how OCC used Stratasys 3D Printing to breathe fire into this roadworthy, roaring custom bike.
