Re: Scanning from 6513?
From: pkpetenj Sent: 1/29/2002 8:27 PM Just some additional FYI on Fiery Scanning. According to Ricoh literature, and my personal experience, scanning documents/photos are only supported when using Adobe Photoshop. You can buy a home edition "Photoshop Deluxe" for about $100 that will work, if they don't already have Adobe Photoshop. I'm not sure if it will work with Illustrator, Pagemaker, etc.

From: LifesGr8 Sent: 1/30/2002 7:35 AM This may be the same thing as the home edition but there is a new program called Photoshop Elements that is about 80% of what the full Photoshop is but only $99 to purchase.

Re: huge pdfs out there
I have seen this many times. The problem is that when the pdf was created it was not properly flattened. When these pdf's go to print they explode into giant files and use up all of the computer's resources. The solution is to open the file in Accrobat Standard or photoshop and either re-pdf the drawing or convert it into a Tiff file. As a tiff file the frawing will print immediately.

Re: C430dn issues printing Power Point from Mac
That reminds me of a "slow printing" problem I worked on several years ago. Customer shows me the page, just a simple form letter, all text, with a single tiny graphic (their logo) in the corner. Going through my troubleshooting steps, I remove elements from the page (in this case the graphic) and reprint. Page prints very quickly so "aha!" must be that tiny graphic. I ask the customer to put the graphic back in, she clicks insert image... browse... click file... add and BAM the image comes...

Re: Changing PDF's after scanning with Adobe Acrobat
A PDF is actually an image, the only way that I have found to REALLY change a PDF after the scan is to edit it in an image editing program. I use Adobe Photoshop, but that is spendy. I suggest that the customer look at the forums at adobe.com and search elsewhere on the web. The real purpose of a PDF is not only to make a document portable, but also to add some security against editing the document.

Re: postscript vs. RPCS
Postscript3 actually supports direct printing of PDFs, which means you don't even have to open the file and print it through the driver. You could simply download the PDF to the printer and the PS3 interpreter can render the PDF. Cool feature, almost no application in the real world though. As other people said, PS is the way to go when quality is paramount. PCL/RPCS is best in a normal office environment. Customers printing from Macs require PS to be able to print. Customers printing from...

Re: Plotbase and Bluebeam PDF plotting issues
Wow! A blast from the past. I have run into this exact issue a number of years ago an a machine running PlotBase. The problem is the layers in the CAD file are not being flattened properly. The file explodes when you try to plot it. The one solution I found was to open the offending file in Photoshop and then use Photoshop to convert it to a pdf or tiff and then plot it. Other than that you'd have to educate the person creating the pdfs with Bluebeam on how to get their settings correct and...
