John, The PrintCopy Tool compares pretty favorably to Plotworks. I attached two documents to this post. The Product Support Guide lists differences between the two products. The PowerPoint has screen shots of all the settings in PrintCopy Tool. I hope this helps.

Tx, awesome post! The conclusion for managed IT was at our own round table and not the general audience. One of the dealers in my group is heavily involved with managed IT, and thought it would be great offer. I can't confirm these specifics, but the Global dealer down here stopped selling Sharp and Konica Minolta a few years ago, so I assumed this happened awhile back.

packaging, floor and wall coverings as well as textiles. Now these are mostly done using analog methods. This stuff is moving to digital look at the digital printing devices coming from HP, efi, and a bunch of people that were not part of the group selling printers to offices.

So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

Not only did Office Machines Company (a SHARP Dealer) lose out to IKON, the following Ricoh Family Group Dealers lost out to IKON: Lanier = Advanced Imaging Solutions Ricoh = Applied Imaging Savin = Adams Remco This trend will continue, wherein more and more IKON wins are realized at the expense of the Independent Dealers.

I understand that these dealers are part of the RFG, but they are also dual line dealers. Advanced Imaging recently taking on Canon and Adams Remco using Toshiba, especially for bid situations. Not as familiar with Applied Imaging, but I believe they are Canon also.

If I am hearing this right, you have two issues...USB access and driverless/wireless printing. Others have USB printing, we don't. However, we have HotSpot Printers that no one else has. http://www.printeron.net/landing/ricoh/Ricoh.html I am going to assume that you are not familier with this. This is an excellent example of why Dealers should be aware of their manufacturer's Environmental initiatives and be able to speak intelligently about 'sustainability.' Ricoh does a great job in this area, as well as XEROX and Konica Minolta. You also see more discussion on 'environmental benefits' in Managed Print Services strategies.

Not sure my post mentions the word "change" anywhere. I do think it is interesting that they have not yet dismantled the Production Print Business Group (PPBG), as IKON (formerly known as Ricoh) tries to reduce costs.

It will be interesting to see where the loyalty lies with this group of execs. I can remember shen they brought in Jim Ivy in Feb of 2000 (gee, it's been that long!), he moved in most of his guys from Savin. For the most part Ivy did an excellent job with Ricoh and Savin. I'm thinking Ricoh turns even further away from the Dealer Channel in the years to come.

Something to think about as well, adding to what was mentioned by Mega. The Japanese division is making the bulk of their profits on the manufacturing of toner. That is the money tree for them. They sell to Ricoh USA and they work through their channels to distribute the boxes. The ultimate goal is to “place the box” Ricoh USA makes their overhead by the profit on the box moving it to the Dealer and other channels.
