Re: Target GP Margins
The whore'ing of the machines is getting worse and worse. Eventually the stupid Japanese presidents of the brands are going to be sitting around in a room somewhere trying to figure out why this industry went to sh*t and what do they do to fix it. This win the business at any cost to keep the factory running has to stop at some point....I would think.

Re: A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Copier Demo/Appointment
I got this from an email: Honestly nothing along the lines of a one liner come to me. However, when I was doing training on the 6755 once I botched the toner refilling process and got toner all over the room. Then as we were going to get some towels to wipe it down, I heard the maintenance guy fire up the vacuum and before I could run down the hall to stop him – the toner went straight through the filter and out the air vent … and ALL over the office. Thanks, John Pulley

Re: When was the last time you did a demo in your demo room?
i'd say 1 every other week, but still most coming from brochure/pencil close. Its only hard if ppl arent serious buyers or serious about you. Our demo room is probably the envy of every dealership around- its like a new macintosh, unashamedly modern in appearance but your not afraid to play with it.. compared to other showrooms that are more like an apple II - all the current products (except seg 1) and all of the software we'd sell is ready to go.

When was the last time you did a demo in your demo room? Right now, I'm once a week, and one every two to three weeks in the field Do you make most of your sales from a brochure? probably 70% from brochures, not a good thing, we all need to do more demo's! Do you find it hard to get customers to come into your demo room? yes, it's easier to go to them with a unit Would you consider your demo room to be well stocked with current product and software solutions? Re: The reason why Ricoh Bought Ikon
That reminds me of the controversy when IKON started to absorb RBS into it's operation and they targeted the Teknoforce first: "These new Toyota vehicles would no longer be painted with the TEKNOFORCE logo, yet they would be launched as the IKON I-KARS, as part of the IKON Assimilation Strategy. As the RBS Direct Branches and IKON local offices merged, the new entity would be supplied with IKON I-KARS, accompanied by a national advertising campaign. The Toyota Venza was specifically chosen...

Re: Tohoku Earthquake Wreaks Havoc on Printer Industry Supply Chain
This was an article from the NY times over the weekend! SHIBATA-MACHI, Japan — When the ground shook violently on the afternoon of March 11, the ceiling collapsed in part of the huge Ricoh copier factory here, exposing the vents and wires above. The offices at the Ricoh plant near Sendai are still in disrepair; workers have focused on restoring the factory and production. The ceiling is still not fixed. But employees are back at their posts, working under temporary lighting and wearing hard...

Re: JOINT STATEMENT BY SHARP ELECTRONICS CORPORATION AND EDWARD MCLAUGHLIN
I dunno, I can see much room for Sharp anymore. Growth areas are Print Production, very low end and MPS. Right now I don't see them as a player in any of these markets. They don't have wide format, duplicators (not that these have been big sellers lately), scanners. I was just on the sharp web site and what do they have three models of laser printers, maybe four tops! The claim to fame is A4 right now and the slick GUI. The industry is changing once again, thus we could see additional...

Re: A Day That Will Never Be Forgotten
I was in my junior year of college and upon return from my 5:30am workout with the rest of my college baseball team, I laid down for a nap in my apartment until 7:45am Central time. After getting dressed and grabbing my things for my morning classes, I walked out to the living room and my brother was laying on the couch and told me a plane hit one of the towers of the World Trade Center in NYC. Of course, we were under the assumption that it was an accident until a little later when the 2nd...

I was on my way to an account to do some end user training when the 1st plane hit. Heard it on IMUS in the morning. At that time everyone throught it was a small commuter plane accident. While at the customer's office, the second plane hit. We stopped training and my customer and I watched it all unfold on a TV in his conference room. I remmember thinking if this is what people felt like after Pearl Harbor. It was a mix of anger and just hazziness.

A COMPUTER virus created to sabotage Iran's nuclear programme and stop Tehran developing an atomic bomb was designed by American and Israeli experts, it was claimed yesterday. The Stuxnet computer worm, the most sophisticated cyber weapon ever made, crippled uranium enrichment facilities across Iran last year and set the country back five years in the nuclear arms race. US military and intelligence sources have told The New York Times that a simulation of Iran's uranium enrichment facility...

SSG that is good info....thanks for sharing but this is really not that hard. You can use google print to send a print job to workstation that is running google chrome and configured with the local printer. I have done this from my living room as a test to 3 different printers and walked into the showroom when I got to the office and went around a retrieved all the print jobs. That's a nice feature to have, thus with eh additional info, it's probably better to have the eraser unit next to the MFP right? Can you buy an additional eraser unit, my reasoning would be to keep the additional one located where the shredder would be (if the shredder was in a different room. Are there any other unique features with e306? BTW thanx for all of the info on this!

Re: Data Destruction
This is an interesting topic. I have always had an interest in computer forensics and spent many hours a lot of forums. I have used many different software programs to test their performance. I have recovered all sorts of data from hard drives and removable media. There are a bunch of programs out there that claim they can recover data some work and many do not. The only way to truly eliminate data is to pulverize the hard drive to dust. There are 2 ways that data can be recovered through...

From: Lee Sent: 6/10/2002 8:20 PM I don't know if this will help, and unfortunately, I don't have one in the demo room to test this theory, but here goes: Service Program 7-003 displays the various meters for the machine. 7-003-1 is the Total Prints, 7-003-7 is B&W Prints, and 7-003-8 is Full color prints. There is another one there called 7-003-14 B&W Contact. If I understand the book correctly, this counter increments when B&W prints are made after the machine has automatically...

In the Product Support Guide, the explanation of the meter is as follows. With SP5-930-1 set to ON, B&W pages after a color page have been printed are counted as B&W. This document goes even further with an example of Page 1=B&W, Page 2=Color, Page3=B&W, Page 4=B&W, Page 5=Color. With Meter charge Mode ON, the counts for the above...

I don't know what you guys are talking about. We have tons of both 850's 1050's and 1085's (at least 50 from within my branch location) in the field. Mostly in schools (which I personally think is the worst environment to place a copier-due to too many hands on the machine by teachers who can care less about do's and don'ts.). But they quite often run PM to PM without any calls. And I've found that the majority of "in between calls" are due to user mishandling and abuse. Most of the...

Re: Frustrated with Inventory Levels?
We are a small dealership where we do not have the luxury of having machines in the demo room to show. Fortunately, we have a relationship with the customer that we can sell off of a brochure, and then order the unit, which usually comes from TN. The majority of the time I will buy from Savin, instead of Ricoh, because of not only price to the dealer, but turn-a-round time. I can sympathisize with the problems other dealers are having with inventory. We are lucky if we have a machine to...

I today's marketplace there is simply no room for those dealerships that want to just get by. Re: Storage of competitor's equipment during lease
Thanks very much, I think the consensus is that the customer must store the equipment themselves either on-site. Or off-site if no room in which case they are not going to want to pay for that, so that has to be factored in to the lease, maybe $50 a month for a storage unit, then it must be taken out at lease end, prepped for shippment back, then shipped. Not sure how often folks are going to want to trust a dealer to take care of all that - has anyone done that and if so how often?
