This my boo boo, I asked my sales manager about this application and the reps at Sage, all stated it could be done out of the box. As to what they were doing before, they did not have the accounting package and asked for a dot matrix printer for forms, I investigated got false info and sold them an 8200N stated it would staple the two pages. I am now in the process adding Planet Press

Hello Emie, I’d like to ask a few questions in order to get a better understanding of the customers environment and their needs. What application is the user using to print? What platform does the application run on (AS/400, Unix, Linux, Windows, etc.)? You mention the user is contemplating on transitioning to a dot matrix printer. I’m assuming the user is printing on blank laser paper and sending the entire print job (form and data) to the printer? Assuming the user carries out his idea of...

Emie: Keep in mind the cost of 4 part carbonless is very high, the ribbon cost of the ribbon cost of the dot matrix is high, noise of the printer, plus dot matrix printers always need to have print heads replaced. Someone would then need to seperate the invoices and tear off the sides. Dr. PCL5 maybe able to help

Thanks for the response. Now to answer the questions. They're using a Sage Business Works Accounting Software version 2012. It's a windows based product. At the moment each customer's invoice is printed one at a time and they're printing 3 to 4 copies of each invoice. They're currently printing to a Canon ImageRunner C5035. The company logo is the only thing in color on the invoice. The first invoice which is sent out to the customer is the only one that needs to be in color. The other...

Just an opinion but while their faxes are great low end machines, from what I see their color printers will not run as reliable as I think a printer should. their warranty for replacement boards is very good but you cannot even order parts from their web site. As for parts sometimes I wait for weeks for a common gear or motor. In a low volume enviroment say 200 prints a month there okay. I like their price point and their dot printers, their faxes and low end printers. Just one persons...

well said Shaja, bit depth is far more important to quality color than resolution. if you have 8 bit 600X600 your quality will be much better than a 2 or 4 bit with a resolution of 2400X1800. Like a Konica minolta guy told me on resolution you can only put so many dot in an inch until they start to just pile up whereas the bit depth has to do with the color variation per pixel.

How much time have you got??!! At switch on the machine checks the white plate underneath the glass and some dummy pixels on the CCD. The machine then knows what white is and what black is. After the image is scanned it is passed to the IPU (Image Processing Unit). The IPU carries out at least 6 processes of filtering. Different filters are used to actually break down the image so that it can be sent to the laser for writing. It also looks at the make up of the image to detect whether it is...

I have had this happen before and it was always to do with the smtp server name. Double check that you have the right name input into the system aaa@222.com. Also you may want to find the IP address of the smtp and try inputing that instead of a name. Not a real technical explanation of a fix, but when the dot com didn't work, the IP address did.

Good luck! Everyone is familiar with the situation. When I talk with DOT, or Objectif Lune or any VDP outfit, the issue is always, how can I determine what to do with the stream. yes we can grab it and apply it, but there is no metadata in the header to identify a sale transaction from a service request to a used car transaction so there is no way to work with the print stream when the data hits a hot folder or other virtual printer. Let me know if you discover anything ????

When purchasing printers or multifunction copiers for an office, trade-offs are typically made. Is the speed appropriate for a workgroup or a department? Is color or monochrome output sufficient? If color, would ink technology or the faster laser technology be better? Typically, if color output is needed, the user must decide between the photo quality of an ink technology or the slightly more grainy output of a color laser. Of course, the color laser can print much faster than the ink...

I wish the Ricoh Solutions Consultant would come and see ME every once in a while! I heard/read/dreamed somewhere that DOT is based off software called Paris. If memory serves, the Paris server has the forms on it and the doc "grabs" the form that it needs from there. I've seen it in a couple of AS/400 environments. There are several different softwares out there that operate in a similar fashion. Thanks! Lee

They will print 3-5 pages per repair order/vehicle/day. It is not uncommon for a delaership this size to service 25,000 cars a month that is about 125,000 pages in just RO's- now add dealership reports, sales, parts... I think there's an error in your math. 8-bit means the dot size can be gradated in 256 levels. 256 levels can be obtained with a 16x16 dot grid (this would be the equivalent in addressable dots). So your math for the case of the iGen3 should be: 600x600x16= 5,760,000 addressable dots (coincidentally the same "addressability" than 2400x2400x1. Anyway, there's a very interesting short article by Frank Romano entitled "Digital Color Printing Specs" (link below) which helps decipher...
