Re: Will outside Sales Rep's go away?
@fisher I agree almost completely, but to play devils advocate I will say that we are selling more desktop printers now than we ever have before. Mostly brother, as we became a partner a couple years ago. I think people are looking for reps to show them a better way than just buying another HP off amazon, but the rep still has to have a higher level conversation with the client...not just hey buy your printers from us.

Would love to have KIP now.

Thanks Fisher. No need to dig up specifics. Thanks for that info. I can put a nice MFP in. I notice it slows down a lot with 11x17 which is what they run mostly.

Re: RiSO ComColor FW5230
yes there is a slowdown, it's not like the RISO dups that run 11x17 at full speed

Re: Possibly moving to Ricoh....
Thank you to everyone for your input. I was offered the position and accepted. I will now be selling RICOHs, but I have the option to also sell Sharps. To fisher: I understand what you are saying. However, my current boss has provided neither my co-worker nor myself any real sales training. He won't even demonstrate how to sell (we think it's because he can't). I have also learned that we are being underbid by the other Sharp dealer in town, and our service dept head has said our prices are...

Re: Emailed request for quote????
This is a very good question Fisher. You are right this is becoming more common as prospects do not want a sales pitch they just want facts & numbers. Then you give them for what they ask. They really don't care about a solution they want the bottom line. Many of those places will give you ONE shot only so you better come in with some good numbers since you will not have a 2nd chance. Otherwise it comes down to a price war then you really lose because the last person they talk with in...

Re: PPDM from Ricoh, Questions
I agree with fisher and old glory you got it going on, I'm gonna mention this to our people. For DeanW, we're not seeing any additional support issues once we've installed on the client, we too are staying away from the server install and yes they lose some of the automated features however in the intial appt, I don't talk about them, I talk about every thing that can be done on the PC.

fisher....thanks for sharing your picture. First impression when I saw this was the way over-sized LCD control panel which is disproportionate from the top of the unit. Another thing was the small not so robust doc feed and how tall that unit is. How much does the doc feed hold? What size in the platen glass? Does the pages come out back to front or right to left? What are those drawer capacities? Looks like they can hold 2 reams, but I doubt that. Are those stabilizers on the bottom so the...

Re: Got A Situation! What would ou do?
A deal like this could blow up in your face.... I'd sell them a new machine and it's all going to be on how you do your proposal. As fisher states your probably going to sacrifice profit on this one. Use only MSRP pricing for the new deal, they bought from you once, most likely they will do the same again. Charge for all of the extras like delivery, install, training, support. If you can get the 600 per month looks like you can get 13K for the new system. So, you take the list price and all...

Re: Got A Situation! What would ou do?
First what was the terms of the first lease? What was the payment? How many months left? When you leased the used Toshiba did you check new or used on the lease? Fisher is right take care of the customer and they will take care of you. Yo need to build that trust and respect back up because right now the customer thinks he got a lemon and you do not care. If he believes that you need to act fast otherwise he will shop you and that will be the end of that customer. Honesty is always the best...

Re: New Ricoh 4410SPF "brainshark" review
These require significantly less service/support than the Ricoh table-top machines. The opportunity to make money on these is by selling them to replace printers as part of an MPS engagement & making your money on the aftermarket. Also, if you're replacing an MP2000 machine, and the customer doesn't need 11 x 17, they would be thrilled with this machine, and you could make solid margin because of the price spread between the MP2000 and this unit. I'll be curious to see how the Ricoh...

Re: Managed Services "Are You in or Out"!
I agree with 'fisher' that "this is the future of our industry" and Managed IT Services would be a logical step for Independent Dealers to take as soon as possible. In fact, it could be necessary in the future, to help protect your base and gain net new business, with this offering.

Re: Does it matter what a presidential candidate promises?
You mean tank like it did under a Republican President and House in 2007-8? The entire world is going thru an austerity period. In nature you have to prune in order to develop new growth. Major businesses in the US are flush with cash and will start to spend when there is DEMAND - when the middle class has the money to spend not when the wealthy keep their tax breaks. Defense contractors don't need to build two more Aircraft Carrier Battlegroups as Romney wants - there's only ONE other...

Re: Leasing Company Copiers are Underwater
Agreed. The client (is it a municipality?) either took a risk knowingly "Eh, flood insurance, who needs it" or unknowingly (incompetence). They now have a loss. But, this is the trend... Re: Leasing Company Copiers are Underwater
So, do you think it would be ethical for the leasing company to go after full stream of payments plus residual in the case I described??? I don't begrudge the leasing company a fair return on their outlay of money but to want the full stream plus residual 4 weeks after funding is excessive. That's making 40% interest on their money for a one month investment. Would you be happy as the leasing partner???? I doubt it. Keep in mind your reputation as a salesperson is attached to how your...

Re: Leasing Company Copiers are Underwater
Well, of course. We all understand that there is NO question of ethics, both parties signed a contract and agreed to obligations. Both took on risks. Now one party has experienced those risks. Is GA entitled to what the contract says they are entitled to after 4 weeks, or only after 5? Five is pretty short... maybe they get what the contract says after 15 weeks, but not 14? Or maybe they get what the contract says if the contract goes to term but they eat it if anything bad happens prior to...

Re: How do you manage Letter of Intent dates for your customers?
The only time a letter of intent is required is if you are moving to a new leasing company and taking out your competitor. If you are the paper holder then no letter of intent is needed as you can upgrade to return or keep and all the transaction is internal with the leasing company. If a letter is needed make sure it is sent in certified to protect the customer. Leasing companies like to play games after they get these letters. They will call the customer and try to convince them to buy the...

Jason...actually I did run an 11 x 17 and it only jumped 1 click. I did a second one and it did the same...a third one, same result, 1 click. 17" x 3 should have resulted in 4 clicks from the start of the test. Need to do some more sampling to get what it's really telling us, although I don't really have much of a problem with my customers paying for linear feet off the Total Counter anyway, so it's not a high priority at this point. It is interesting to see what all is in there, though. Oh...
